Position Description:

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will join a multidisciplinary team of providers dedicated to maximizing the rehabilitation of patients with General Rehab needs (neurologic disease, post-polio, long-covid, cardiac, amputee, etc.), Stroke, Brain Injury (BI), Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), multi-trauma, etc. in both the inpatient consult service and outpatient setting located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Froedtert Hospital.

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Medical College of Wisconsin, comprised of 30 faculty members, along with approximately 20 residents, fellows and graduate students, is one of the largest medical rehabilitation programs in the country. There is a broad range of clinical, educational and research services available, providing comprehensive care for the disabled. The department collaborates its skills and activities with many other affiliated medical and surgical specialties, as well as with rehabilitation teams consisting of rehabilitation nurses; speech, occupational, physical, and vocational therapists; neuropsychologists; bio-engineers; social services and case managers.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

The Ideal Candidate will be a clinically experienced APP/clinician wanting to be part of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) with previous experience in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, Brain Injury, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Trauma, or Acute Care within an inpatient or outpatient setting with an overall comfort in working with the disabled.

In this role you will:

  • Support the rehabilitation of patients with General Rehab needs (neurologic disease, post-polio, long-covid, cardiac, amputee, etc.), Stroke, Brain Injury (BI), Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), multi-trauma, etc. as a member of the Inpatient Consult Service and Rehab Medicine Clinic
  • Manages established or referred patients with physical medicine/rehabilitation needs
  • Participates in development of standardized, evidence-based practice care plans and protocols within the clinic or inpatient setting
  • This role will focus on spasticity patients and consults.

Core Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Preferred Experience:

Previous APP or clinical experience in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, Brain Injury, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Trauma, or Acute Care.

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

Wisconsin RN License Certification by NCCPA
