Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a HIL Test Engineer to drive the development of the HIL infrastructure and test scripts to simulate the productized battery management to test and validate the BMS firmware before deploying to the field. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

What you'll do:
  • Lead the development effort on HIL test cases that cover a wide range of operating conditions, fault scenarios, and functional safety requirements.

  • Lead the effort in troubleshooting and debugging issues identified during HIL testing, working closely with hardware and software teams to resolve problems. Triage and debug the failed test cases between HIL-related failures and software bugs.

  • Contribute to maintaining and upgrading the HIL infrastructure that accurately represents our BMS to test and validate the firmware.

  • Design and execute HIL tests, collect and analyze data, identify and document issues, and provide clear and concise reports to development teams. This includes automation of regression test execution at different stages of software development cycles and its integration with CI/CD workflow/pipelines.

  • Collaborate with firmware and electronics engineers to validate the functionality, performance, and safety of power electronics software and control algorithms. Manage the traceability of test coverage from requirements to validation at different granularity levels of requirements on the HIL with growing firmware maturity levels. Report on the test coverage improvements to the team regularly.

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline. Master's degree preferred.

  • 4+ years of experience with HIL specification, test case design, automation, and execution.

  • Ability to develop test cases from bare minimum or ambiguous requirements.

  • 4+ years of Python experience. Experience with Py-Test in developing modular and scalable automation infrastructure for embedded and real-time control applications.

  • Experience with developing, integrating, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines into test and automation infrastructure for a code base with many users.

  • Comfortable with using schematics and layout files to understand design information and using basic probing tools, such as oscilloscope, for debugging purposes.
