Summary

Responsible for the safe, smooth traffic flow of vehicles at the working face of the landfill, by enforcing publicly posted safety rules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Direct vehicles to the proper area of the facility based on site fill plan.

  • Direct and communicate with trucks and vehicles in and out of the working area in all weather conditions.

  • Control traffic flow in the event of emergency.

  • Inspect loads for signs of unacceptable waste. May remove unsegregated items such as tires, batteries, and other unacceptable materials.

  • Follow all safety policies and rules including properly approaching vehicles, making eye contact with drivers to ensure signals are understood, and use of personal protective equipment.

  • Enforce publicly posted safety rules and un-posted safety standards.

  • Communicate (verbally or via two-way radio) with customers, scale house and equipment operators regarding incoming loads of waste or other issues as they arise.

  • Follow guidelines and procedures for completing daily opening and closing tasks.

  • May perform general labor duties including site clean-up, yard work and building maintenance.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalent Diploma (GED)

  • No experience required

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of safety practices and hazards standard to work area

  • Ability to understand and implement verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to perform physical labor

  • Ability to comprehend written and oral work assignments and perform work as assigned

  • Additional skills and experience may be required

Licenses and Certifications

Valid State of Texas Class C driver's license.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works in an outdoor environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
