Primary Purpose of Job Responsible for the development, administration, security, performance and recoverability of the Bank's Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), related data marts, Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes and related systems. Provides administration and SQL support for operational databases. Makes recommendations for continual improvement of database operations. Major Job Accountabilities
- Responsible for the overall performance, reliability and security of data, databases and related systems. Ensures that databases and processes are performing at optimum levels and that all data, databases, and related systems are recoverable.
- Performs preventative maintenance measures. Regularly monitors database and ETL operations to ensure successful completion. Provides after-hour support and troubleshooting activities for all databases and ETL processes, as needed to ensure 24/7 system availability. After-hours monitoring of systems and processes as needed to resolve production issues.
- Performs system and server administrative duties, including software installations, upgrades, configuration, and migrations.
- Implements data strategy to secure, restore and archive databases while remaining compliant with the Bank's information security policies.
- Leads and manages technical projects of moderate complexity.
- Develops, administers and maintains the EDW, data marts, application interfaces, data virtualization layers, reports, dashboards, data extracts, and ETL platforms.
- Ensures appropriate controls over the EDW to ensure that it is a highly controlled and auditable environment.
- Executes appropriate testing and validation activities for all platforms. Documents test results and ensures that all open issues are resolved.
- Creates and maintains design documents, application overview documents, data flow diagrams, procedures, standards, and other technical documents.
- Installs and configures MS SQL servers for standalone and failover cluster environments.
- Dell Compellant storage management across databases; creates volumes, monitors the space and provides capacity planning based on the growth of the databases.
- Administers Denodo Data Virtualization tool including designing databases, and creating base views to deploy across environments. Troubleshoot issues and support to Business for accessing the views.
- Develops T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, views, triggers and indices.
- Creates and maintains MS SQL Agent jobs, alerts, and security all SQL server instances.
- Designs and implements SSIS packages and SSRS reports.
- Assists with production incidents and resolutions, including root cause analysis and recommendations.
- Develops PowerShell scripts.
- Support Developers with tuning SQL queries, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Fosters a positive, learning and collaborative team environment. Proactively documents and cross-trains teammates to promote knowledge transfer and to ensure adequate coverage.
Experience Required
- Five (5) years of designing, implementing, administering and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Three (3) years of enterprise ETL development.
Required Skills or Training
- Proficiency with database design, security, backup, recovery, tuning, and troubleshooting; security concepts including authentication, authorization, Active Directory, Kerberos and SQL server auditing and logging; and SSL and SSO configuration to support on Informatica and Cognos applications.
- Proficiency with SQL, stored procedures, triggers and views.
- Thorough understanding of security concepts including authentication, authorization, Active Directory, Kerberos, and SQL Server Auditing and Logging.
- Experience with network and systems administration, including SAN technologies, Hyper-V, Windows Server OS, and hardware such as firewalls, routers and switches.
- Demonstrates experience with business continuity including backups, high-availability, continuous availability, and disaster recovery.
- Knowledgeable in cryptography, such as PKI, SSL, SQL Server TDE, and key management.
- Ability to manage projects of moderate complexity.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and be able to effectively communicate technical concepts.
- Possesses excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet project deadlines and Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
- Demonstrates readiness to leverage new technologies without formal training.
- Demonstrates self-motivation and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision; takes initiative when identifying a need or issue.
