Director, Immuno-Oncology and Cell Therapy

Your Tasks:

As the Director of the Immuno-Oncology and Cell Therapy, you will have the exciting opportunity to lead a team of talented scientists and be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and execution of our research programs in immunology, with a particular focus on the development of cell-based therapies. In addition to R&D responsibilities, you will contribute to strategic discussions, develop internal and external collaboration and interact with other functions and departments. The role will have direct reports and sub-teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Oversee a dynamic team involved in the discovery and development of new CAR T products in the areas of hematologic and solid tumors, autoimmune disease and beyond.
  • Develop new analytical approaches using Miltenyi's unique suite of spatial imaging, proteomic, and genomic instruments: MACSima, RNAsky, BlazeUltramicroscope.
  • Implement innovative gene transduction methodologies such as engineered lentiviruses, novel virus-like particles, lipid nanoparticles, and electroporation using lab-scale and clinical-scale applications.
  • Identify and facilitate implementation of new technologies, supervise the development of new projects, assays and platforms to address the emerging needs, and stay apace with the field.
  • Furthermore, work collaboratively with the other groups and departments to advance translation of cell therapy projects with high quality documentation, presentation of data and reports.
  • Take part in strategic discussion, goal setting exercise, stage-gate reviews.
  • Facilitate advancement of projects through creating strong work relationships and connections between teams, mitigating obstacles and help shaping departmental strategies in the areas of cell therapy.
  • Help head of R&D and key management leaders, and scientific affairs team in vetting clinical collaborators, provide scientific diligence, present preclinical data and advocate clinical transition. In some projects pre-clinical studies leading up to IND applications will be required.
  • Help evaluating preclinical/clinical-stage licensing and collaboration and developing and evaluating the IP landscape in the field.


Requirements:



  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell Biology or other related scientific discipline and extensive post-doctoral experience in related areas; 10+ years of experience with a proven track record of leading successful research programs in immunology, with a focus on the development of cell-based therapies; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Proven track record of leading successful research programs in immunology, with a focus on the development of cell-based therapies for oncologic indications.
  • Strong expertise in cellular immunology, including experience with CAR-T cell therapies and adoptive cell transfer approaches.
  • Experience with preclinical and clinical development of immunotherapies, including IND-enabling studies and regulatory submissions.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor a team of scientists and researchers.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to write scientific papers and reports and present research findings to internal and external audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, negotiating and collaboration skills together with evidence of having used these to support problem solving and delivery in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and guidelines for immunotherapy product development.
  • Outstanding experience in translational research in advanced cell & gene therapies, including CAR T cell therapies.

Work Environment:

This job is performed in a variety of facilities. Each person performing this job must have a home office environment, which is temperature controlled. This job requires the person to be mobile to visit clinical trial sites. Due to the travel requirements, this position may be exposed to natural elements of nature. Used research/clinical equipment may be handled in this job and strict SOPs must be followed and PPE may be required to be worn per Miltenyi or hospital policies.
