This position is for PhD Chemical Engineer reporting to the GL of Methanolysis Development Laboratory in Plastic and Circular Development Division. The PhD Chemical Engineer role is a key point of contact that sits at the interface of technology and manufacturing. This person will work closely with manufacturing partners to provide process technology and development support for seamless operation of MeOS commercial plant. This position could also support Eastman's new molecular recycling facility outside of Kingsport which could require some travel as the projects progress.

Responsibilities

  • Broad background in reaction, adsorption or separation sciences is preferred with small molecule focus.
  • Lead and participate on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Willing to develop and serve as technical expertise supporting methanolysis back-end process across all technology asset/scale.
  • Conduct technical experiments (lab and pilot scale) and transfer technology learning from laboratory, pilot plant and mini plant operation to commercial methanolysis plant (Scale-up) and vice versa (Scale-down)
  • Apply engineering and scientific fundamentals to existing and new areas of interest.
  • Display a level of intellectual curiosity to drive to fundamental understanding of scientific principles.
  • Demonstrated creativity and desire to solve challenging and complex problems.
  • Must be a self-starter with high initiative while focusing on results.
  • Ability to manage multiple and/or changing priorities with minimum supervision.
  • Confident in working across multiple functions and groups.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering required.
  • 2+ years of direct manufacturing support preferred.
  • Commitment to high level of safety and environmental awareness required.
  • Experience with analytical systems (LIMS) and shipping/receiving of samples preferred.
  • High level of adaptability.
  • Exhibit good leadership attitudes and behaviors.
  • Displays a level of intellectual curiosity to drive to fundamental understanding of scientific principles.
  • Demonstrated creativity and desire to solve challenging and complex problems.
  • Must be a self-starter with high initiative while focusing on results.
  • Ability to manage multiple and/or changing priorities with minimum supervision.
  • Confident in working across multiple functions and groups.
  • Experience with Microsoft office
  • Proven ability to engage well with technicians/operators, peers, and management.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing with varied audiences: manufacturing, fellow researchers, business and technology management, and executive management.
