Our team is looking for a success-oriented Rail Bridge Project Manager that will be a key player in HDR's freight rail program.

The freight rail network is a vital link in our national and global supply chain markets. Your work at HDR results in critical infrastructure for the sustainable movement of goods and people. Primary Responsibilities

As an employee-owner in this Rail Bridge Project Manager role, we'll count on you to:



  • Serve as the internal lead and primary client point of contact for a variety of bridge projects with Class I railroads, short line railroads, industries, utilities, ports, agencies, and other industry clients.
  • Lead and/or participate in the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Develop client relationships to identify project opportunities.
  • Lead and/or participate in marketing and contractual activities.
  • Manage scope, budget, and schedule, as well as development of design criteria, specifications, project guides, project meeting notes, and cost estimating activities.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate with technical, clerical, and subconsultant professionals on multi-disciplinary teams to manage and coordinate workloads throughout entire project.
  • Effectively communicate between client and project team.
  • Work with Business/Accounting/Management teams for project reviews.
  • Lead and/or perform detailed QC reviews of projects.
  • Participate in client and stakeholder visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspection as needed.
  • Attend industry events and represent HDR, as needed.
  • Mentor younger staff and support continued professional development.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • 5 years bridge design experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams on bridge/structures engineering/design projects.
  • Proven, hands-on experience in all aspects of bridge/structures engineering/design projects.
  • Experience and proficiency with bridge/structural analysis and design software programs.
  • Experience and basic proficiency using MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  • Experience working with AREMA's Manual for Railway Engineering and/or other railroad design guidelines, specifications, and criteria.
  • Project management skills.
  • Experience in technical writing, communicating, and presenting to clients and the public.
  • Experience with rail, industrial, or transit clients is strongly preferred.
  • Construction inspection or construction management experience is a plus.
  • Experience with freight rail or transit rail design is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: LARSA, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, spColumn, and/or LUSAS.
  • Strong organizational, communication, listening and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and have a valid Driver's License.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 7 years related experience
  • A minimum 2 years project management experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • MS Office and MS Project experience is required (Access experience would be plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
