Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Associate position is to conduct research investigation into psychosocial aspects of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult cancer survivorship under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

Duties include assisting with: 1) a randomized trial of a problem-solving skills training intervention for young adults with cancer as part of NIH-funded research study; 2) participation in qualitative interviews/analysis of young adult cancer survivors and healthcare professionals; 3) data management and analysis, including both quantitative and qualitative data; 4) training and guiding staff and students; 5) writing and submitting manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals; and 6) development and writing of research grant applications.

Considerable opportunities exist for mentored professional development including analytic skills for quantitative and qualitative data, randomized controlled trials, writing lead-author papers, and designing, applying for, and conducting NIH-funded research.

Among the key duties for this position are the following:

  • Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) in ongoing research, including the conduct of a trial examining a problem-solving skills training intervention. Postdoctoral Associate may conduct sessions with participants.
  • Assist the PI with analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, and preparing manuscripts, reports, and presentations.
  • Assist the PI with the development and writing of research grant proposals.
  • Present research results at local and national meetings.
  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. Understands, demonstrates and models the Rutgers Cancer Institute core values.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree in psychology (e.g., clinical, counseling, health), public health, or a related field.
  • Qualified candidates must be in the process of completing or have finished the training for Ph.D. and/or M.D.
  • Candidates must provide proof all requirements have been fulfilled before their position start date.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in cancer prevention and control or psycho-oncology research is preferred.

  • Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
