Position Summary: The Gambling Recovery Mentor LTD (6 month limited time duration) position is responsible for providing mentoring services and community outreach within the Problem Gambling Program. This position is responsible for gambling prevention, recovery support, community outreach, effective individual and group mentoring, family services in an outpatient setting for those experiencing problem gambling, substance use and mental health disorders. We seek culturally responsive mentors who have experienced similar situations during their own transition to a gambling-free life.

Education, Training & Experience:



  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • MHACBO Certified Gambling Recovery Mentor certification (CGRM) required.
  • MHACBO Certified Recovery Mentor certification or Peer Support Specialist (CRM/PSS) is required at the time of hire, or we will support obtaining it within 90 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of resources and programs in the Multnomah County area.
  • CPR certification, or completion of certification within 30 days of hire.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:



  • Reliable vehicle, active driver's license, current insurance, and ability to pass our insurer's driving standards and criminal background check.
  • Must meet the requirements set forth by OAR 309-019-0125 Staff Qualifications and Competencies as well as the CRM certification requirements set forth by MHACBO.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Provide recovery support, individual and group mentoring services, and introduce program participants to 12-step and other community gambling recovery programs/meetings.
  • Provide culturally informed individual, family, and group mentoring services for adults experiencing problem gambling and/or substance abuse problems. Maintain fidelity to best practices and treatment models.
  • Identify and refer for mental health assessments as needed.
  • Assist clients to organize and manage program weekly schedules.
  • Help participants develop resumes, teach job readiness skills, and connect them with job development programs and employers.
  • Monitor and assist program participants to follow through on a case management plan designed by the individual's primary counselor through follow-up calls and texts.
  • Work in a friendly, collaborative manner with community partners, including frequent communication with each participant's primary counselor and parole officer.
  • Use personal vehicle to transport program participants to appointments, recovery activities, and to obtain resources when appropriate.
  • Follow VOA policies and procedures and all relevant state and federal regulations and standards.
  • Attend and actively participate in individual and group supervision, weekly staffing and other meetings as assigned by the clinical supervisor.
  • Perform CPR in case of emergency.


Environmental Conditions: Work is in a professional treatment clinic setting and involves local travel to attend meetings, appointments and events.

Schedule: This is a full-time position; 40 hrs. per week, Monday thru Friday 9-6 with some weekends and special events hours.
