Terminal Mechanic

Description

Essential Duties:



  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair all types of stevedoring equipment.
  • Primary contact for diagnosing problems with electric-powered forklifts.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on stevedoring equipment; plug in and check fluid levels for diesel power forklifts and automobiles
  • Complete written inspection report, work order, and parts list.
  • Requisition parts that are not in inventory using enterprise asset management system.
  • Deliver and position equipment for various stevedoring activities to the appropriate terminal location.
  • Remain on site to perform emergency repairs during vessel/terminal operations.
  • Complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2+ years of utility or heavy equipment maintenance experience.
  • Basic set of mechanics hand and air tools at least up to 1 1/2" wrenches, sockets, both metric and standard
  • Obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification) Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Valid Driver's License



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Basic written communication skills required for completion of daily reports.
  • Ability to train others on software applications that support the department's operations.



Physical Working Attributes:



  • Climb up and down on equipment and ladders
  • Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions
  • Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment
  • Stand long period of times
  • Lift, push, and/or pull up to 50lbs
