JOB SUMMARY
Works under general direction to perform professional level medical or scientific research assignments related to particular or specialized field of endeavor.

The Cardiometabolic Research Unit (CMRU) at UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks a Research Associate to join Dr. Ambarish Pandey and Dr. Thomas Wang's research laboratory. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in cardiometabolic health and heart failure. The CMRU focuses on the natriuretic peptide system, novel biomarkers, obesity-related cardiac dysfunction, and social determinants in cardiometabolic disease.
The Research Associate will work under supervision and direction to oversee and conduct experiments, analyze data, maintain lab equipment, and assist with reports and presentations. Responsibilities include handling biological samples, following Good Clinical Laboratory Practices, and participating in quality control. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively, train and guide junior staff, contribute to lab discussions, and remain current with scientific literature.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute advanced wet lab procedures and general laboratory techniques
- Conduct independent data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Perform advanced Roche Cobas test analysis
- Carry out approved basic bench procedures
- Manage biorepository stocks and inventory
- Handle human specimen collection, storage, and analysis

Qualifications
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- 3-4 years of laboratory experience, including 2 years at Research Assistant II level or equivalent
- Ability to develop and implement new research procedures
- Proficiency in computer programming for data analysis
- Experience in maintaining and operating complex laboratory equipment
- Capability to instruct students and junior staff on research techniques
- Strong scientific writing skills for reports

Preferred Skills
- Advanced knowledge of Roche Cobas analyzers
- Phlebotomy certification
- Expertise in laboratory systems and software
- Expertise with CLIA standards
- MLT/MLS certification or equivalent
- Experience with clinical research work/ trials

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education
    Master's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment. or
    Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment.


  • Experience
    3 years of laboratory experience with Master's degree. and 2 years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent. or
    4 years of laboratory experience with Bachelor's degree. and 2 years at level of Research Assistant II or equivalent.


JOB DUTIES



  • Recommends and/or initiates new or modified procedures and techniques based upon latest developments in assigned field or analysis of research data.
  • Performs computer programming for accumulation and analysis of research data.
  • Designs, constructs, repairs, or modifies electronic and/or mechanical equipment or apparatus used in experiments and research projects.
  • Instructs medical students, graduate students, residents, or other laboratory personnel of lower grade with respect to techniques, procedures, and equipment utilized in research or experiments.
  • Assists principal investigator and other professional personnel in writing of reports and papers for publication.
  • May provide working supervision to employees of lower grade engaged in performance of variety of difficult and complex laboratory work tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
