- Develop, coordinate, and actively participate in programs, methods, systems, and practices for maintaining a safe workplace and environmental compliance for the facility
- Support and facilitate employee and contractor involvement in safety, health, security, and emergency response systems.
- Assist in special program efforts such as the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program, RCMS, and other regulatory or company programs and processes.
- Provide appropriate HESS leadership, counsel and coaching on HESS related issues, define requirements, interpret regulations and procedures, and assist to define acceptable solutions.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and measuring of plant HESS, contractor safety, fire protection, emergency response and services, procedures, practices, projects, and record keeping complying with all applicable codes, standards and acceptable practices.
- Maintain regulatory compliance and continued quality in OxyChem safety process systems.
- Work with plant leadership, personnel, and contract groups to correct and improve performance and practices as applicable.
- Assists in all HESS audits from OxyChem Corporate and regulatory personnel, and represents OxyChem at applicable community, and HESS organizations and functions.
- Assist in facilitation of hearing conservation, HAZCOM, PPE, respiratory protection, Emergency Response, and Industrial Hygiene programs.
- Performs exposure monitoring for noise, asbestos, and related chemicals.
- Develop and conduct training in health, safety, environmental, transportation, and emergency response
- Develop the required human resources capability for achieving the required Convent and Corporate safety, IH and emergency response programs
- Serve as a member of the St. James Parish Mutual Aid Organization and support community safety and emergency response activities.
- Develop and maintain safety and emergency response plans and procedures; Coordinate Emergency Response activities as needed per the Convent Plant Emergency Response Plan.
- Coordinate activities and serve as a member of the plant volunteer SHEAC Committee
- Support the Convent FSO in maintaining a secure facility through inspections, security drills, training and review of procedures.
- Participates and accepts responsibility for meeting plant and individual PSM goals and monthly spreadsheet responsibilities as required by Safety Procedure SP-065. Lead and participate in Planned Inspections, job field observations, CORE 4, near miss reporting and other programs, as required.
- Plan and execute assigned projects in a professional manner requiring a minimum of supervision.
- Manage and maintain the plant alarm system to ensure proper employee notification during emergencies.
- Completes any additional responsibilities assigned by Safety and Security Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in industrial safety or related curriculum
- Minimum 5 years safety/environmental experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
- Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and regulations, related to HESS.
- Ability to analyze data, comprehend both abstract and concrete concepts, and translate technical information in a manner that can be communicated to non-technical personnel.
- High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to respond to off-hour emergencies.
- Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work turnarounds or respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
- Physical requirements - Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including respiratory protective equipment, climb stairs, and be approved to enter all process areas. Ability to climb, ascend, and descend stairs, and travel long distances, as required. Ability to respond to audible and visual alarms. Ability to exit the facility in an expedient manner during an emergency. Ability to communicate verbally and in written form. Must be capable of utilizing computer systems.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Emergency response experience
- ASP/CSP certification
- Good working knowledge of SAP.
