This position is the subject matter expert for package highway and multimodal (movement of goods) and equipment balance to meet Covestro shipping needs to customers and stock transfers. Major Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with all shipping sites engaged in shipping activity to standardize practices, procedures, package highway and multimodal equipment requirements.
- Key contact for the 3rd Party Logistics provider for package highway, multimodal transportation, loading, unloading and other activities related to the movement of material by package highway and multimodal.
- Equipment balance/re-positioning and collaboration with other subject matter experts to meet Covestro needs for movement of materials during planned and unplanned events
- Act as a SME for freight exceptions analyst and work in conjunction with the freight pay group to eliminate freight pay exceptions
- Works distribution safety and the3PL on resolving existing claims
- Works with the complaints coordinator to answer complaints and root cause failures
- Works with the 3PL to identify intermodal opportunities to support our carbon footprint reduction project and achieve freight savings.
- Serves as project leader to evaluate, recommend and report to the leadership team methods to improve performance
- Executes assignments of medium complexity while developing solutions for identified and anticipate problems
- Has cross-functional experience within Order Management, SCC, or within different departments across the company or external to Covestro
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 1 year of supply chain experience with transportation planning experience
Skills & Abilities:
- Detailed knowledge of surface transportation modes (truckload, LTL, and multimodal), operating procedures, and supplier base.
- A high level of interpersonal skills along with the ability to engage and communicate with stakeholders at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to work with and lead remote 3rd party logistics employees.
- Knowledge of Covestro production, inventory, and distribution policies, plans, and procedures.
- Technical skills related to the operation of transportation management systems.
- Ability to analyze data from multiple sources (SAP and third-party transportation management systems) and form data driven solutions.
- Analytical skills to assist with continuous improvement initiative and supplier performance management.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, deal with ambiguity, manage conflict, and initiate corrective operational actions.
- In depth understanding of transportation operations specific to surface transportation (TL and LTL, air domestic, COFC, TOFC).
- Has expertise with specific customers, product lines or regulatory procedures to satisfy customer requirements
- Familiarity with systems and reporting tools
- Intermediate knowledge level of current distribution technologies, foreign and domestic laws and regulations
- Intermediate level knowledge of supply chain processes, i.e. logistics, SPS, manufacturing, etc
