AESC is looking to add a Fire Alarm Systems Engineer Specialist to our team in the US.

  • Full-Time
  • Remote with up to or over 25 - 50% travel

About the Role

As a key member of AESC US LLC, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission to lead in full-value-chain battery solutions for a sustainable future. Reporting to the Fire Protection Engineering Lead, your work within the Global Industrial Development will directly impact our strategic goals and contribute to our position as a global leader in battery technology.

What You Will Do
  • Fire/Detection Alarm SME: Serve as main point of contact on assigned projects for all fire alarm design-related questions, and provide technical expertise and guidance, from inception through design, construction, to turn-over phase. Review system device locations, riser diagrams, device wiring details, panel mounting and wiring details, battery calculations, voltage drop calculations, power supply sizing, etc. Assist electrical and controls engineers in choosing the appropriate mix of products and installation methods to provide the most cost-effective solution.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct periodic quality control reviews to assess compliance and address any deficiencies or deviations. Perform QAQC of project interim deliverable packages (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC). Ensure adherence to design standards, codes, regulatory requirements, and client design requirements.
  • Stakeholder / Client / Team Coordination: Foster positive and collaborative relationships with clients, understanding their needs and providing exceptional customer service. Collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams, including cross-disciplined engineers (C/S/A/M/P/LV), stakeholders, and contractors to drive solutions, develop comprehensive project plans and design strategies. Provide support in the development and maintenance of design standards and guidelines as needed. Participate in project meetings, presentations, and progress reports, effectively communicating project status, issues, and recommendations.
  • Construction Administration: Conduct project site visits as required for monitoring progress, quality, adherence to design standards, and turnover acceptance/Punch List as Owner's Rep. Provide oversight, address, and resolve construction-related issues and change orders as required, making informed decisions that balance design intent, cost implications, and project goals. Contracts: Assist in the preparation and negotiation of contracts and agreements with contractors, consultants, and/or suppliers. Review contracts to ensure compliance with project requirements and contractual obligations.
  • System Integration: Design and implement fire alarm systems to ensure seamless integration with building automation systems (BAS) and manufacturing equipment, maintaining effective communication and operational efficiency.
  • Interface Development: Collaborate with controls engineers and BAS specialists to develop interfaces between fire alarm systems and manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.
  • Testing and Validation: Perform system-level testing to validate the proper functionality of fire alarm system interfaces with building systems and manufacturing equipment during commissioning phases.
  • Troubleshooting and Optimization: Diagnose and resolve interface issues between fire alarm systems, BAS, and manufacturing equipment, optimizing integration and functionality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
What You Need
  • Registered Fire Protection (PE) preferred or NICET Level II/III Fire Alarm Systems certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection or related engineering discipline required.
  • 5+ years of experience in overseeing Owner's Capital Development projects in complex industries such as medical, industrial, and/or scientific laboratory facilities, through entire project life cycle, from inception to turn-over.
  • Interfacing Standards: Knowledge of protocols like BACnet, Modbus, and OPC used for integration between fire alarm systems, BAS, and industrial machines.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Experience working with cross-functional teams to design, integrate, and validate systems interfacing with fire alarms, building controls, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Programming Knowledge: Familiarity with PLC programming and SCADA systems related to fire alarm and building system integration.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following:
    • Fire alarm design
    • Electrical circuit diagrams
    • Fire alarm system components
    • Electrical controls
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Strong knowledge of NFPA 72 and NEC
    • Working knowledge of IBC, IFC, and NFPA standards.
    • CSI specifications applicable to project scope
  • Experience in EV and/or battery manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneNote, Revit, CAD.
  • Excellent time management, effective communication in both verbal and written, and strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
