Description

Essential Duties:



  • Direct and coordinate activities of the Purchasing staff engaged in purchasing and distributing materials, equipment and supplies.
  • Interact with key stakeholders in the organization, including Finance, Engineering, Safety and Operations, as well as Ports America Corporate Procurement.
  • Provide supervision and direction for the Purchasing staff to include the following:


    • Interview, select, coach, and retain qualified candidates for department staffing needs.
    • Provide leadership and oversight for department staff, including regular feedback and periodic appraisals.
    • Develop/Participate in career plan development for staff


  • Collaborate across the Enterprise to identify best practices to drive continuous improvement within the department.
  • Prepare/maintain manuals & documentation regarding purchasing systems and procedures.
  • Locate and maintain suppliers that provide high quality products and services with competitive pricing, while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.
  • Apply negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery and service.
  • Oversee the preparation and issuance of purchase orders and change notices.
  • Review and approve invoices in AP system and manage purchasing & receiving processes in ERP & Asset management systems.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for ERP and Asset management systems in which the team operates.
  • Build and prepare a operational performance & financial reports as needed.
  • Support inventory cycle counting process with internal stakeholders and auditors, as needed.
  • Assist Accounting with the Monthly close and Year End audit requirements.
  • Streamline processes within the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business Management, Accounting or related discipline.


    • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.


  • 5+ years of purchasing experience, preferably for maritime operations, transportation/logistics, construction, or related industry.
  • 3+ years of supervision experience within a purchasing function.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) issued by the Department of Homeland Security.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of purchasing practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of managerial and leadership principles, with the ability to influence other management team members and lead a department of technically proficient individuals.
  • Experience with Enterprise Asset Management and ERP applications, including purchasing systems.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Strong internal customer service focus & stakeholder engagement capability.
  • Experience with enterprise asset management systems such as MAINPAC.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to extract, compile and analyze data, and Excel spreadsheet proficiency.



Physical Working Attributes:



  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and sitting.
  • Work in an environment with moving objects and machinery.
  • The environment may be hazardous to persons unable to see or hear fast moving heavy equipment.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
