Overview:

Veeco'sprocess equipment solutions enable the manufacture of LEDs, flexible OLED displays, power electronics, hard drives, MEMS and wireless chips. We are the market leader in MOCVD, MBE, Ion Beam and other advanced thin film process technologies. Our high-performance systems drive innovation in energy efficiency, consumer electronics and network storage and allow our customers to maximize productivity and achieve lower cost of ownership. The Mechanical Design Engineer is a key member of the New Product Development (NPD) team, working on complex wafer processing equipment involving ion beam etch, ion beam deposition, chemical and physical vapor deposition technologies.This role involves overall system design, vacuum vessel design, ion beam source design, incorporation of OEM components, as well as many other engineering and design areas.

Responsibilities:



  • Work on developmentprojects of vacuum process equipment, with the responsibility for all mechanical design aspects and manufacturing of the equipment, subassembliesand components
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise, while focusing on design quality, reliability, cost, and ease of manufacturing
  • Perform analytical studies and theoretical calculations, requiring a variety of engineering knowledge, including analysis of vacuum vessels, heat transfer, material structural analysis, fluids, motion mechanisms
  • Define mechanical design specifications based on customer requirements and company capabilities
  • Prepare presentations and present design concepts, ideas, and test results to internal and external customers
  • Provide expertise in mechanical engineering while participating in design reviews; support procurement efforts in correlation with overall project deadlines
  • Provide "hands on" assistance and support to the manufacturing team
  • Develop test plans and design of experiments and is directly involved in prototype development and testing
  • Create and release engineering documentation through the ECO process



Qualifications:

BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of experience designing subassemblies and components or an MS degree is required.Experience with SolidWorks,Inventor, ProE or similar 3D CAD systemis required. Experience designing Capital Equipment for Semiconductor Industry is preferred (vacuum vessels, wafer fixtures, motion mechanisms, etc).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time to customer sites and/or supplier facilities on an as-needed basis
  • Knowledge of Ion beam and/or Vacuum physics is preferred
  • Finite element analysis experience in structural and/or thermal, is preferred
  • Experience with SAP, or similar PLM system, is preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamicenvironment as part of a multi-disciplinary team, able to take initiative, own full projects, and/or lead a small project team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to make technical presentations and interface with all levels of management, suppliers, and customers
  • Must be hands-on with devices, prototyping, and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of SEMI regulatory standards is a plus
  • Project management experience is a plus



The expected salary range for this position is $92,650.00- $117,357, plus bonus opportunity. When determining your pay, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
