The Site Logistics Lead will plan, supervise, coordinate and direct all Site Logistics activities in a safe, environmentally correct, and cost-effective manner. The position directly supervises employees assigned to the area and is responsible for all shipments from the site, warehouse activities and bulk tank farm activities.

Warehouse activities include storage of packaged finished goods, packaged order processing, planning shipping schedules for packaged goods, receiving, transfers of finished goods and packaged raw materials, label printing, coordination of facility and equipment maintenance and capital spending, customer service and training.

The bulk tank farm activities include the loading and unloading of material to meet customer requirements for finished goods, and plant operational requirements for bulk raw materials at the site.

The Site Logistics Lead must function as the leader in a team-based environment. The position is expected to maintain regulatory compliance for logistics activities with all governing bodies including but not limited to State and US Department of Transportation, State and US Environmental Protection Agencies and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. This position also includes any other job duties, tasks, and/or projects that may be assigned by management.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the operating facilities are maintained at the highest standard possible to provide a safe and cost-effective material handling function. Responsible for compliance with all safety and environmental requirements. This includes participation in site safety initiatives, Process Safety analysis, Job Safety analysis, Environmental and Safety inspections, incident investigations, safety and improvement suggestions, training compliance, and spill control.
  • Responsible for compliance with all site safety and environmental requirements applicable to the Supply Chain & Logistics (SC&L) department activities in Frankfort.
  • Responsible to plan and schedule the safest and most efficient loading and product handling practices. Decisions impact safety, productivity, and costs.
  • Direct, coordinate, plan and organize staff for total material handling, storage, containerization, and shipping activities for all inbound and outbound orders using the quality process to safely meet or exceed all customer requirements.
  • Account for the correctness of equipment, procedures, and documentation. Spot check containers for proper labeling, carrier equipment, and shipping documents for correctness and proper DOT classes. Work with carrier to resolve any issues.
  • Responsible to coordinate activities between Supply Chain & Logistics (SC&L) organization, manufacturing, product management, procurement, and transportation providers to achieve the goal of 100% on-time shipments.
  • Coordinate staffing levels and scheduling to best suit the needs of the production plant and shipping/receiving requirements.
  • Serve as local SAP key user providing training and support for site logistics organization.
  • Provide guidance and training to new and existing employees on all applicable job functions.
  • Direct and control inventory cycle count of the finished goods warehouse and bulk storage tanks.
  • Accountable to plan, supervise, and coordinate the tank truck unloading schedule for raw materials to meet operational requirements including maintenance of the tank farms and loading stations.
  • Responsible for communication between Covestro LLC and our transportation providers scheduling all finished goods shipments and inbound raw material receipts.
  • Active participation in Transport Logistics Safety Council quarterly council meetings.
  • Incumbent is responsible for the inventory control of finished goods, coordination with manufacturing units on status and requirements, and coordination of Site Logistics bulk loading. Management of activities directly impacts the overtime costs, productivity, and customer satisfaction. The department's success at meeting customer requirements is at the core of this position responsibility.
  • External contacts are vital and critical to a smooth operation. The position may deal with senior management in a customer or carrier operation. Internal contacts cover a wide spectrum of groups including Supply Chain & Logistics, Product Management, Sales Management, Marketing Management, Accounting, Regional Distribution Centers, Plant Production Management, Shipping Management, Purchasing, Lab Supervision & Technicians and Shift Supervisors.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (Logistics or similar discipline preferred) with 3+ years of chemical plant logistics experience with specialized skills in transportation and material distribution; OR Associate's degree (Logistics or similar discipline preferred) with 6+ years of chemical plant logistics experience with specialized skills in transportation and material distribution; OR High School diploma with 11+ years of chemical plant logistics experience with specialized skills in transportation and material distribution.
  • Forklift certification or willingness/ability to achieve forklift certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge with SAP

  • Ability to utilize supervisory skills and ability to lead change.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a safe work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills are necessary to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to function as a mentor and trainer for employees within the organization. This position functions with minimal supervision and serves as a key player to the success of the Site Logistics organization.
  • Demonstrated high level of commitment to workplace safety.
  • Fundamental understanding of Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to attend additional training sessions.
