About the Role

An Area Resource Supervisor is assigned to a process area for which he / she serves as a resource supervisor/subject matter expert to the area operators, optimizing day-to-day activities so that the process is more effective and efficient. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Area Resource Supervisor takes the lead on small projects and assists engineers on major projects. While the Area Resource is not expected to perform detailed engineering calculations, process and equipment designs, the incumbent is expected to perform simple mass balances and provide key process data to the engineering/leadership group and run smaller projects in the area focused on CI.

Main Accountabilities

Safety

  • Identify and resolve unsafe conditions
  • Perform weekly/daily process audits
  • Ensure area is being operated safely by technicians
  • Ensure interlocks are active and add more where needed
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and cGMP requirements are met in the area
  • Supply work lists (Gameplans) to the shift teams for areas of improvement and follow-up
  • Take the lead on management of change, process safety management and risk assessment in respective areas

Environment

  • Know the impact of area on wastewater treatment and work to minimize load. Actively solicit ideas to improve environmental performance and work with engineers and management to implement these.

Process Troubleshooting/Optimization

  • Lead troubleshooting of significant process upsets and problems
  • Work with engineers, plant coordinators and area technicians to resolve operational challenges
  • Make improvements to enable a more efficient operation
  • Initiate program changes, alarm and interlock revisions through narrative writing
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as needed in your area. This includes assisting in the implementation of changes/completion of the action items associated with the RCA.

Quality and Yield

  • Track the quality and yield performance daily to ensure optimum operating condition. Be the first to notice when things aren't right and ensure corrective actions are taken by the shift team.

Production Management

  • Lead / supervise / develop the area operators and shift coordinators.
  • Manage rates through the area
  • Know the production targets and position the area to achieve them in the most efficient way. This may require working with upstream and downstream areas to determine best operating strategies.
  • Write and communicate daily game plans to ensure jobs are executed in a timely manner

Implementation of New Processes or Process Changes

  • Assist engineers in managing new process introduction which include design, safety review, trial run and commissioning
  • Evaluate all changes within areas of responsibility to determine applicability of MOC requirements
  • Execute MOCs as necessary
  • Ensure that MOCs are closed in a timely manner
  • Ensure that Process Safety Information is updated accordingly

Capital Project Management

  • Assist engineers in managing projects that involve process engineering calculations
  • Assist or lead project evaluation, justification, implementation and commissioning
  • Some projects he/she may be assigned as the Project Manager
  • Obtain Green Belt certification and/or training and complete 1 green belt/CI project per year under guidance from a Primient Black belt

Training

  • Take lead in providing technicians the technical training of the existing or new processes
  • Review training documents and safe work procedures to ensure documents are updated with the changes in the plant
  • Ensure monthly skill development meetings are conducted for continued training of operators
  • Be involved in the technician progression evaluation and qualification system
  • Be a resource for technicians and engineers in both process specific information and good use of operations fundamentals.
  • Provide refresher training to the operating areas as required to meet process safety management (PSM) requirements

Reliability

  • Assist in performing periodic equipment criticality analysis and work with the team to follow through on action items initiated
  • Identify equipment reliability improvement opportunities with a focus on equipment with high criticality ranking (production impact and frequency of problems)
  • Initiate root cause investigations to identify preventive actions that will minimize downtime/lost production
  • Help foster an "operator ownership" mentality in relation to equipment performance, upkeep, and monitoring in order to strengthen the plant's reliability performance
About You
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field or 10+ years of applicable experience and GED/HS diploma
  • Ideally. extensive experience in operations supervision within the food, food additive, or chemical manufacturing industry, focusing on personnel development and process optimization.
  • In-depth knowledge of food or chemical manufacturing processes, food safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with quality control and food safety certifications (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000, BRC) and project management methodologies is a plus.
  • Ability to work with computers (Windows, Office).
  • Good organization skills.

  • Must be willing to work overtime, including nights, weekends, andholidays if necessary

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform the following tasks safely:

  • Lifting of up to 50 pounds without mechanical assistance.
  • Use of hand tools above shoulders
  • Use of walk-behind pallet jacks
  • Use of forklift, scissor lift and other PIE
  • Work in elevated positions with hand tools and fall restraint equipment.
  • Ability to wear personnel protective equipment (PPE)
  • Climbing up and down ladders
  • Working at heights 20' and more
  • Working in hot areas and climates for extended times
  • Working in cold climates for extended times
  • Handling chemicals properly
Total RewardsThe annual pay range estimated for this position is $76,448.80 - $95,561.00 and is bonus eligible.

Please note that while this range reflects the full spectrum of compensation available for this role, individual compensation will be determined based on several factors including your experience, skills, and alignment with the role's responsibilities. During the interview process there will be an opportunity to discuss how your background fits into the pay range.
