The successful candidate:

**Shift- M-F 7AM-3:30PM***

Responsible for operating both Positron Emission Tomography (PET) equipment and routine Computerized Tomography (CT) equipment. Incumbent will be responsible for producing high quality images with a minimum of repeats, handling multiple room assignments and all different types of exams (diagnostic and interventional computerized tomography) daily. Under the direction of a Nuclear Medicine physician, incumbent will perform high quality radionuclide imaging and non-imaging studies, including the administration of radiopharmaceuticals, the operation of instruments, the application of various imaging techniques, and the positioning of patients to present the maximum amount of diagnostic information. Technologist will assist with other activities as needed to ensure effective and efficient day-to-day operations in the department. This position requires initiative, the ability to make independent judgments, and maintain a positive attitude during challenging situations. Incumbent must be able to communicate with physicians, patients, families, caregivers, and ancillary hospital personnel in the execution of the required duties and will participate in improvement initiatives. This position may require cross-training in additional modalities and will participate in the training and orientation of other employees.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Performs full range of PET/CT and Diagnostic CT imaging procedures on patients, including assisting patients in assuming the required anatomical body positions and adjusting the equipment to encompass the area to be studied. Sets up instruments (PET/CT, scintillation cameras, computer, etc.) for studies in accordance with prescribed procedures. Adjusts the controls on the equipment to produce the information of required diagnostic quality. Acquires data from patient studies on a computer for dynamic and static procedures. Processes images on data on computer following prescribed techniques. Performs and oversees more sophisticated technical procedures. Responsible for equipment/protocols set up in accordance with in departmental, hospital and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) guidelines. Performs quality control procedures on all instruments, recording the results in the appropriate logbooks. Calibrates instruments regularly according to prescribed protocol. May recommend at time the procurement and necessity for maintenance of equipment. Provides patient care with compassion. Takes call on evenings and weekends as listed on the call schedule, and returns to perform emergency patient exams when called

  • Authenticates all physician orders prior to exam. Maintains accurate records of exams performed. Documents patient exam information in the Radiology Information System, indicating correct begin and end times for patient exams. Maintains records of receipt, use and disposal of radionuclide according to (Department of Environmental Quality) DEQ regulation. Checks operation of dose calibrator and radiation safety monitors against known standards. Performs quality control procedures on all instruments, recording the results in the appropriate logbooks. Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records. Facilitates procurement of necessary forms, consents and documentation to comply with hospital standards and obtains required signatures. Obtains required signatures, consents, and releases.

  • Performs various tasks associated with the receipt, distribution, storage and disposal of radioactive material. Prepares solutions and materials when applicable and prepares serial dilutions as required. Calculates quantity of activity to be administered following prescribed procedures according to patient examination and or age and weight. Administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients by catheter or needle injection, inhalation or oral administration

  • Selects, operates, maintains and cares for specialized equipment as power injectors, monitoring equipment, etc., and performs the more sophisticated technical procedures as assigned by a supervisor or radiologist. Selects proper technical factors for quality images on an individual patient basis. Maintains accurate records of supplies, medications, contrast media, patient reactions and equipment used during Computerized Technology (CT) procedures. Fills out purchase order for supplies and directs to appropriate department. May recommend at time the procurement and necessity for maintenance of equipment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Graduate or equivalent

Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic Technology training in an AMA approved school

Minimum of two years of experience after graduation in a major hospital setting

Licensure: Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Nuclear Medicine, ARRT (N), OR Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT). Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Radiography, ARRT (R) (CT)

Registered by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) in Radiography (R ) , Computerized Tomography (CT)

Registered by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) Nuclear Medicine

Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association
