In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
Qualifications for Employment
Education (Minimum Requirements): Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited institution, Master's Degree Preferred. National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certified (NATABOC). Eligible for licensure in the State of New York, and current instructor certification in First Aid CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specific to this position.
Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, a valid driver's license and ability to travel are required. This position will have a non-traditional work schedule (nights & weekends) and requires the ability to work outside and handle relevant equipment for such purposes. Light travel is required at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
Nature and Scope of Duties
The Head Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Athletics and/or their designee and performs the following duties:
1. Direct and organize all athletic training services for all NJCAA athletic programs and will be responsible for daily practice and game athletic training coverage, coordinating all treatments, and physician referrals.
2. Supervises employees; evaluates staffing needs; assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of tasks; trains and orients new employees; approves and/or disapproves requests for leaves; interviews candidates for employment and recommends for hire; evaluates work performance.
3. Creates and maintains a collaborative relationship with unit heads and staff members in Athletics, Equipment, and Health and Wellness Services.
4. The responsibilities and duties for this position requires varying schedules, including weekends, evenings, and light to moderate lifting. Travel as needed.
5. Maintain National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification (NATABOC), NY State Licensure, and current CPR/AED instructor certification. Maintain certifications by completing the required continuing education requirements as established by the NATA.
6. Supervise day-to-day athletic training services for all departmental sports offerings (currently 20) and student-athletes (currently 350+) in the area of injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
7. Supervise educational programs for student-athletes, coaches, and staff related to general health, current trends in sports medicine, nutrition, and sports supplements.
8. Supervises and maintains the accurate and comprehensive medical records on each student-athlete, including secondary insurance correspondence.
9. Responsible for compliance of all student athletes participating on HVCC athletic teams: including medical eligibility pursuant to the policies of HVCC and the Rules of Eligibility of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
10. Supervise and administer the secondary insurance program, including claims, monitoring, and correspondence.
11. Supervise and organize department CPR/AED/First Aid and Concussion Trainings.
12. Supervise and operate annual budget with fiscal responsibility, and makes recommendations to the Director of Athletics.
13. Acts as key member of the Athletic Department's risk management team and ability to assume responsibility for risk management.
14. Enforce and follow HVCC Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures
15. Communicate relevant NJCAA Rules to act as a resource for the campus community and student-athletes.
16. Develops, implements, and updates Emergency Action Plan and emergency communication for all campus and local intercollegiate practice and competition venues
17. Advises student-athletes/parents of HVCC secondary insurance coverage of athletic-related injuries or illnesses and acts as a liaison for the department's student-athlete insurance program.
18. Monitors and maintains athletic training room inventory including evaluation of safety of equipment for liability considerations and recommends purchase of appropriate supplies and equipment.
19. Maintains the security of medical records regarding HIPPA guidelines.
20. Develops strategic relationships with contracted and non-contracted medical services to provide services to student-athletes.
21. Collaborates and maintains relationships with staff and healthcare peers in Region III, Mountain Valley Conference, and all applicable conferences to which HVCC is a member institution.
22. Supervises and schedules student athletic trainers and per diem trainers as needed.
23. Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a 10-month, Full-Time position with a salary of $65,000.
