Summary Responsible for the installation and maintenance of all electronic and specialty equipment that is installed in City vehicles, to include warning lights, sirens, GPS, computer docking stations, 2-way radio's, mobile video systems, vehicle radars, vehicle wireless modems, back-up cameras, D/C to A/C inverters, and assisting with the annual 2-way radio preventative maintenance program. Pay Range: $21.85 - 27.28 (Depending on qualifications and experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair specific electronic and specialty devices in City vehicles. Repair or resolve problems with electronic equipment resulting from diagnostic tests. Modify or fabricate metal used in the installation process. Monitor problem resolution and ensure satisfactory and timely completion following the ITIL process. Procure parts to repair electronic equipment and maintain records. Communicate with City of Garland employees, contractors, vendors, and other public safety persons to meet City-wide needs. Organize shop supplies and tools and maintain the upkeep of the shop.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D. 6 months job related experience in field Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire Basic DC circuit fundamentals theory and installation
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience:
Advanced training courses in DC circuit fundamentals Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Law Enforcement Vehicle Technician Certification preferred Experience in low voltage equipment repair and installation Experience in basic 2-way radio concepts
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Skill in understanding and analyzing prevalent issues Skill in custom installation and fabrication of 12 volt electronic systems Excellent customer service skills Ability to work without direct supervision Ability to work in service garage atmosphere Ability to perform repair and installation of both two-way radio and 12 volt electronics
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Class C Texas driver's license MECP Basic preferred, not required Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire Certified Welder preferred, not required
