Job purpose

This role is integral to the smooth operation of Payroll Services and reporting. Strong communication, organization, and critical thinking skills will be key attributes to being successful in this role. You will work in close partnership with Human Resources and Finance and be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for salaried and hourly employees who work in different locations across the US.

Essential Duties and responsibilities



  • Manage end to end payroll processing for bi-weekly and weekly payroll plus ad hoc payments for all salaried and hourly employees.
  • Administer and maintain payroll and Time and attendance systems, ensure data integrity and implement system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records, as per government and audit requirements.
  • Process approved payroll changes, such as new hires, terminations, and garnishments in our payroll system, UKG.
  • Understand and interpret government legislation and company policies to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain payroll records and generate relevant reports for various stakeholders.
  • Set up state taxes as required
  • Respond to government inquiries, including statistic surveys.
  • Respond to audit inquiries from both internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc reports for Human Resources, supervisors, and finance.
  • Support Year-end balancing of W2's and filings.
  • Other payroll responsibilities as required.


Qualifications



  • College Degree in relevant field preferred. US Payroll certification an asset.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Payroll an asset, but not required.
  • 3 -5 years payroll experience using in-house software, such as UKG.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll and wage tax laws required.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and Outlook required.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll processing procedures across multiple states.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
