Overview:

USC Communications is seeking a Project Manager to join its team. The Communications team sets the strategic communications vision and marketing strategies that promote the campus community's innovative accomplishments, builds a strong brand identity and nurtures the University's reputation among its vast constituencies. Reporting to the Special Advisor/Associate Vice President, the incumbent initiates, plans, manages, monitors and evaluates advancement marketing and communications projects using accepted project management methodologies and strong communication with team members, clients and stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops advancement marketing and communications project plans, life cycles, budgets and milestones, and ensure team and stakeholders are informed of progress against plan

  • Maintains master project and editorial calendars in collaboration with team leads; develops and maintains project types and definitions, deliverable timelines, task structures, work hours estimates and reports.

  • Administers team collaboration through the development, maintenance and management of a project management system (PMS) as well as project types and definitions, workflows, deliverable timelines and task structures, work hours estimates and team project reports.

  • Contributes to project planning and budgeting, securing vendor quotes, negotiating contracts, and managing relationships.

  • Manages and traffic content, assets, and university archives, ensuring adherence to brand guidelines and standards.

  • Stays updated on emerging technology and standards for print and digital production.

  • Manages one Marketing Coordinator.

  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

This is a hybrid position under our current work arrangement plan, with the expectation of on-site presence in our offices in the USC Tower adjacent to campus in downtown Los Angeles.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 4 years' experience in design and/or publishing, editing content and managing production workflows and schedules.

  • Demonstrated leadership/management and strategic planning experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with Associated Press style or other style guides.

  • Experience managing vendors and budgets, soliciting price quotes and negotiating contracts.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, able to develop and maintain positive, productive relationships with diverse groups of internal/external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills, able to manage complex projects and changing deadlines and priorities.

  • Proven computer skills in PC and Mac environments, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Google applications and PMS software.

  • May require work, and travel, on weekends, evenings and/or holidays based on business necessity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) coursework or certification.

  • Project consulting and management experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of applicable publishing software applications.

  • Knowledge of digital publishing and/or social media content management.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $95,830.51 - $116,866.49. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Preferred Skills: Newspaper, magazine and/or online publication experience. Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages beyond English. Project consulting and management experience. Advanced knowledge of applicable publishing software applications. Knowledge of digital publishing and/or social media content management. Experience originating and maintaining databases for desktop publishing and image storage (e.g., Filemaker Pro).
