Sr. Accounts Payable Specialist

General Purpose:

Responsible for completing all accounts payable functions timely and accurately while working independently and with the team in a fast paced, high-performance culture. Ensure that the needs of the company, vendors and internal personnel are consistently met.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Generate and release accounts payable disbursements accurately and timely according to daily payment schedule and payment types.
  • Analyze and research vendor payment issues, missing invoices, related questions and propose solutions where needed.
  • Identify, review, analyze and correctly process invoice and payment corrections.
  • Review, analyze, clear and/or provide guidance to AP Specialists for SAP exception processing records flagged in the SAP workflow.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to AP Specialist regarding prioritization, workloads, processes, and related questions.
  • Manage, resolve, and provide guidance for emails received in helpdesk mailbox within 5 days.
  • Research and request stop payments and generate replacement payments as needed.
  • Research, monitor, and clear invoices blocked for payment by working with process partners. This would include identifying trends and proposing solutions using technical knowledge to reduce blocked payments.
  • Subject matter expert for Accounts Payable ancillary processes - virtual credit card, recurring payments, wires outside of SAP, and reconcile related balance sheet accounts.
  • Support and lead conference calls with internal clients, suppliers, and third parties to find best solutions to more complex invoice and payment processes/issues.
  • Effectively build and manage internal and external client relationships within own area of responsibility.
  • Create and maintain written policies and procedures for all Accounts Payable processes.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to plant/location personnel to increase their understanding and efficiencies surrounding AP processes.
  • Research, monitor and resolve Accounts Payable open item aging and payment exceptions by pulling SAP data to create reports and working with process partners.
  • Produce and communicate analytical content such as detailing vendor payment histories to reconcile with vendors or PO details of receipts and related invoices for discussion with cross functional teams to provide strategic solutions to resolve complex invoicing issues. This could include vendor specific billing or payment application requirements or business unit needs regarding specific material/ PO invoice matching and processing issues.
  • Work closely with the AP leadership to communicate early and often on issues and day to day operations.

Education and Experience:



  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • 2 to 5 years of accounts payable disbursement experience or related work experience
  • Experience working in a shared services environment, using SAP preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Proficient knowledge of accounts payable concepts and practices
  • Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems
  • Analytical skills
  • Must be detail-oriented person, able to make decisions, solve problems and respond to inquiries with limited supervision
