Post Doctoral Researcher to pursue specialized research training, education and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine; plans, designs and executes experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the assigned research lab focusing on the molecular mechanisms of how respiratory viruses such as influenza A virus and SARS-CoV-2 hijack and subvert host cellular processes to facilitate their replication and pathogenicity and understanding the role of host cellular proteins in promoting lung inflammation in acute and chronic lung diseases in response to injury; collects and analyzes data for research sponsored by appropriate agencies and Institutions; identifies and selects problems to be studied; develops and troubleshoots new experimental techniques and protocols; attends research seminars; contributes to manuscript preparation and supports technical writing; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; prepares manuscripts for publications, articles, posters, and abstracts; performs additional duties as assigned.

The Post Doctoral Researcher is expected to perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including (but not limited to) PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, cellular assays, cell cultures, Northern and Western blot analysis; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine procedures on lab animals, including animal handling, dissecting, and colony maintenance; records, consolidates and analyze research results; evaluates validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory, and initiates procurement requests as needed.
