Schedule Commitment:

Schedules are available 6 weeks in advance.

Shifts:

Patient Safety Associates work 8-hour shifts.

  • Shift times: day shift start: 0630am-3pm
  • Evening shift start: 2:30pm-11pm
  • Night shift start: 10:30pm-7am

The work schedule commitment for this position requires the following:

Commitments:

  • Per diem: 64 hours in a 6-week schedule period with 16 Saturday hours, 16 Sunday hours, 32 weekdays hours. The 64 hours must be the completed during the assigned shift time. All additional hours worked are flexible with shift times. Work one summer and one winter holiday. Not benefited.
  • PT: 24 hours/week; work every other weekend and holiday rotation. Benefits eligible.
  • FT: 40 hours/week; work every other weekend and holiday rotation. Benefits eligible.
    • Jefferson recognized Holidays include: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
    • Jefferson nursing Hallmark days include: New Year's Eve, Christmas Eve, Day After Thanksgiving, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, and Super Bowl Sunday.

Job Summary

With a commitment to patient and family centered care, the Safety Associate works collaboratively with the health care team to provide remote and at times direct supportive care for patients who require additional monitoring or assistance. Promotes quality patient care, comfort, and a safe environment under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Recognizes the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners.
  • Provides observation for safety of assigned patient.
  • Reports observations of changes in patient condition or behavior to appropriate staff.
  • Completes required reports and documentation
  • This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) pediatric through frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Interpersonal Relationships -

Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Patient Rights -

Knowledge of principles and practices associated with the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers.

Health Information Documentation -

Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods, ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.

Patient Safety -

Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.

Life Support -

Knowledge of the process taken to restore and maintain essential physiological functions, and the ability to apply these processes in a patient care situation.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail -

Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail, ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

AND

Experience:

Previous related experience preferred

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

CPR Certification, completion of Patient/Sitter Companion Program, and/or De-Escalation class preferred.

Additional Information

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to de-escalate patients who are agitated in a way that preserves patient dignity required. Previous experience in the clinical setting preferred. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Standard Precautions
