Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center is a 100 bed acute care, inpatient psychiatric facility for adults in Virginia Beach, VA. VBPC offers specialty mental health treatment for older adults, chronically mentally ill, and substance abuse/detox programming. VBPC is a state of the art building located in the beautiful Virginia Beach area, just minutes from the ocean.

Qualifications

Position Summary:Prepares, presents and coordinates clinical and non-clinical trainings to ensure staff competency

upon hire and throughout their employment. Collaborates with Program / Department Managers and Department Directors to design facility-wide programs to improve quality of care and employee performance through the development of staff knowledge and skills. As needed, provides assessment, nursing care and evaluation of nursing care. Ensures consistent use of the nursing process in providing quality care. Interacts with patients, patient families, clinical team, and community resources establishing relationships and providing positive customer service. Provides evidence-bases care. Coordinates and delegates direct care, planning, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions for designated shift.

Ensures consistent use of psychiatric nursing process in providing quality care.

  • Conduct clinical and non-clinical in-services as needed. Prepares, presents and coordinates clinical and non-clinical trainings to ensure staff competency upon hire and throughout their employment. Provides remedial training as requested.
  • Coordinates NEO and Annual Competency Trainings. Documenting accordingly, organizing paperwork and ensures filing and maintenance of training records. Tracks staff competency to ensure compliance of all staff.
  • Collaborates with Program / Department Managers and Department Directors to design facility-wide programs to improve quality of care and employee performance through the development of staff knowledge and skills.
  • Monitors and utilizes on-line learning system HealthStream. Assumes a lead role in utilizing and growing the use of HealthStream tool.
  • Collaborates with HR, managers and employees to ensure timely completion of initial and annual competencies, test, assessments, and checklist.
  • Develop nursing treatment plans base on the nursing assessment and individualized needs of the patient.
  • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate the impact of predictable and unpredictable events in patient situations (i.e.: aware of environmental hazards in a crisis situation, able to identify patient triggers prior to crisis)
  • Coordinates, monitors and reports on CEU protocol within and outside of HealthStream
  • Collaborates with HR, managers and employees to ensure timely completion of initial and annual competencies, test, assessments, and checklist.
  • Perform physical and mental assessment on admission and every 24 hours, and/or as needed
  • Must also have knowledge of training modalities for adult learners and knowledge / ability to prepare training materials. Requires ability to organize, communicate, follow through with judgment, strong verbal / written communication skills and ability to type / operate computer in preparation of training documents. Must possess knowledge of basic psychiatric nursing procedures working with a general population including adults, and chemically dependent individuals. Knowledge of therapeutic processes, growth and development, limit setting, behavior management and establishing/maintaining therapeutic relationships required. Current license to practice nursing in VA required
