Smartplant Engineer

Responsibilities:

The Y12 National Security Complex, simply known as Y12, has three primary national security missions that protect our country and our allies around the world. Maintaining the US nuclear weapons stockpile, reducing global threats, and fueling the US Navy's nuclear propulsion program are the key activities at this historic site.

As a SmartPlant Engineer, you'll act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for the implementation and administration of SmartPlant applications.

The primary Hexagon tools currently being used are Smart 3D, Smart Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), Smart Sketch, Smart Review and Smart Reference Data. The use of Smart Instrumentation, Smart Electrical, and SmartPlant Foundation are being planned for future implementations.

The SmartPlant Engineer will interface with other professionals from Y12 organizations including departments within Mission Engineering, Information Solutions and Services (IS&S), and others. Your interfaces with IS&S will help to maintain, streamline, and standardize requirements for software and hardware solutions ultimately strengthening the IT infrastructure for Mission Engineering.

Responsibilities also include:

• Assisting in the maintenance of application servers and databases.
• Configuring reference data based on specifications.
• Developing workflow instructions.
• Integrating these applications to work together to correlate and exchange data based on defined discipline roles and rules.
• Integrating these applications with operation and facility management automation toolsets for data visualization and reporting to support configuration management and maintenance of operations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering/science discipline from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program.
• Must have at least 5 years of direct relevant experience.
• Solid background in disciplines that focus on Computer Science and IT Architecture.
• Experience in applying Design, Product, Process, and System Engineering principles.
• Experience leading teams of multi-disciplinary professionals.
• Experience gathering requirements, developing project plans, budgets, and identifying and managing risks related to assigned projects.
• In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of the US Department of Energy (DOE) O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1-year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative) DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities (Ref. DOE O 426.2).
• Must be eligible for a DOE security clearance and maintain eligibility throughout duration of employment.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening exam.

Preferred Job Requirements

• An ABET accredited bachelor's or master's degree with 10 to 14 years of direct experience.
• Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to various engineering disciplines.
• Familiarity with concepts related to human factors, conguration management, database solutions, data management, product life cycle management, system reliability, electronic procedures, and human interfaces.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong desire to learn new concepts, seek out state of the art software and process solutions, and implement process improvements with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

Location/Work Arrangement:

• This position is full-time (40-hour work week).
• Onsite position at the Y12 facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
