Instrumentation and Controls Engineer - Level 5

The Y12 National Security Complex, simply known as Y12, has three primary national security missions that protect our country and our allies around the world. Maintaining the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile, reducing global threats, and fueling the U.S. Navy's nuclear propulsion program are the key activities at this historic site.

As a Senior I&C Engineer Level 5, you'll be responsible for developing high quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs, and providing expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems. Other responsibilities include:

• Design the preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and labor-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and title II design engineering deliverables including preparation of calculations and analyses, construction specifications & drawings, and equipment specifications.
• Routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.
• Apply technical expertise and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the electrical engineering field with primarily instrumentation/controls focus for equipment process control and monitoring.
• Provide self-performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes, and standards.
• Field troubleshooting support of existing systems will be required to inform design for corrective actions.

Qualifications:

• Must have a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from a college or university accredited through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
• The Senior I&C Engineer Level 5 requires 20 years of experience or a master's degree with 19 years of experience.
• Must have 5 years of relevant experience in I&C engineering experience with a strong background in Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Demonstrated experience utilizing the National Electrical Code, UL508A, and relevant ISA standards to design instrumentation and controls.
• Demonstrated experience preparing conduit/cable schedules, conduit/equipment plans, one-line diagrams, wiring/connection/schematic diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, various sections/elevations/details, calculations, datasheets, and construction specifications.
• Experience leading teams of multi-disciplinary professionals.
• Ability to develop process control system narratives, aid in the development of process software requirements, and provide input to Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Ability to effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of an integrated project team.
• Ability to develop control cabinet assembly drawings, system diagrams, and control logic for both batch and continuous processes using conventional analog instrumentation, distributed digital control systems, and programmable logic controller/human-machine interfaces (PLCs/HMIs).
• Must be eligible for a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance and maintain eligibility throughout duration of employment.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening exam.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• Professional Engineering License (PE)
• Experience utilizing Rockwell Automation industrial automation software (RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, etc.)
• A DOE security clearance level Q is required; however, all candidates will be considered regardless of current security clearance status.

Location/Work Arrangement:

• This position is full-time (40-hour work week; 4/10 Monday - Thursday).
• Onsite position at the Y12 facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Compensation:

Starting annual salaries have typically been in this range: $188,937 to $207,147 USD. Actual salary will be commensurate with current engineering level and may vary.
