At First Merchants, we value the service, patriotism, and bravery of our military members and have created a 52-week apprenticeship program providing tailored training for veterans pursuing a career in Human Resources.

The Human Resources Information System (HRIS) & Reporting Analyst Veteran Apprentice will split responsibilities between the maintenance of the HRIS and basic reporting.

As part of this role you will:



  • Administer and monitor HRIS application, including managing and resetting passwords within the HRIS
  • Troubleshoot system issues
  • Perform testing for system upgrades, new software integrations, etc. to ensure application is kept current with vendor's release schedule, patches and other requirements
  • Perform application maintenance including incident tickets, workflow design and process change requests
  • Create and update visual data flow maps to accurately represent the movement and processing of information within the system
  • Participate in business process reviews and analysis in order to drive efficiency and system utilization
  • Develop supporting documentation including desk procedure manuals
  • Update Disaster Recovery plans and models
  • Provide basic ad hoc or scheduled Human Resources (HR) report, and maintain the access and distribution of reporting dashboards


To be successful in this position, we require the following:



  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • A minimum of two (2) years of application/business/systems or reporting experience, OR equivalent military experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of MS Excel experience
  • Veteran of the U.S. Military with Honorable or Medical Discharge, or an active-duty or former member of the National Guard or Reserve


    The following would be a plus:




    • Proficiency in UKG or competing software



    • Experience in data collection, analysis, or reporting



    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills


    • 3-5 years of experience as an HRIS or Reporting Analyst
