Supervisor, Technical Services Staff, Survey Research Group (SRG)

Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services, work in a high-energy environment to supervise technical staff in support of data collection and sample management for the Survey Research Group (SRG). Overall responsibilities include project assignment, regular supervision, professional development, and working with SRG management and HR on performance reviews, hiring of new technical staff, and team performance. Also involves liaising with SRG survey coordinators and directors to assess project needs for technical staff and brainstorming solutions.

The job responsibilities include the following:

  • Supervise a team of survey technical staff who provide programming and technical support to multiple projects in a range of data collection modes (CAPI, CATI, Web, and IVR). Technical staff is responsible for programming and ongoing monitoring of interviewing, case management and record management systems and for oversight of project-specific hardware resources. Assess staff skillset against project needs to promote the professional development and training of SRG technical staff. Provide ongoing performance feedback, and initiate recruitment of new staff as needed to fulfill SRG project commitments.
  • Serve as back up to the Manager of Technical Support Services as SRG point of contact in liaising with software and hardware vendors and with RAND Information Services (IS).
  • Assist SRG Management with maintaining SRG technical documentation for staff.
  • Programming for more complex studies that use Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of SRG software solutions including CASES, Confirmit/Forsta, ODK, and record management solutions. Demonstrated ability to work in Windows.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple tasks and projects and to mentor staff
  • Demonstrated strong organization and problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience with social science research data collection in general and computer-assisted data collection in particular.
  • Ability to implement technical solutions while maintaining best practices of survey research.

Experience: Minimum 6 years CAI programming experience required; 8 years or more experience preferred; lead experience preferred.

Education: BA/BS degree required. MA/MS preferred.

Location: RAND Santa Monica Office

Salary Range: $88,000 - $130,900

RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate's work experience, education/training, skills, expertise; and internal equity.Successful candidates will be offered employment in a specific title, as determined by the candidate's education and experience. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND's sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
