Sintering Summer 2025 Internship

Battelle Energy Alliance
United States, Idaho, Idaho Falls
1955 Fremont Avenue (Show on map)
Jan 16, 2025
Description

Is an internship focused on changing the world's energy future intriguing? If so, we might have just the opportunity you're looking for!

Reporting to the Advanced Manufacturing group, you will learn the physics behind electric field assisted sintering (EFAS) technologies as well as the material science of powder processing, diffusion bonding, carbon fiber composites, and material characterization.

The candidate will have opportunities to get hands on operation and training with EFAS systems to generate samples of various different metal and ceramic materials. Together we will discuss how to build experimental plans for each material, interpret the data, and revise plans for follow up experiments with the end goal of the student being able to independently run the experimental apparition on their own.

The experimental data will feed into numerous projects at INL ranging from computational modeling, neutron diffraction studies, thermal property measurement, etc. Furthermore, they will be able to observe operation and participate in discussions related to the worlds largest EFAS system installed here at INL.
