Job Summary: The Charge Nurse-PeriAnesthesia, is a highly skilled registered nurse (RN) with advanced knowledge in procedural and perianesthesia nursing in a Magnet Designated academic Children's Hospital with level one trauma designation. Works closely with the nursing leadership team and utilizes skilled discretion and independent judgment to oversee and supervise a team of licensed and unlicensed staff who provide direct and indirect age-specific patient care for a diverse outpatient and inpatient population in a fast-paced environment. Coordinates shift activities based on the needs of the patient population served, established professional practice model (Duffy's Quality-Caring Model), applicable regulatory standards and requirements, and approved clinical practice standards, policies and procedures. Makes assignments based on staff competency, patient acuity, relevant infection control and safety issues, staffing criteria and productivity standards. Assigns and re-assigns staff and workloads to provide uninterrupted, cost effective patient care and patient flow with optimum productivity. Functions within the expectations of a highly proficient professional nurse and meets nursing excellence standards to maintain Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Promotes the empowerment of the nursing profession and excels in implementing new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Provides direct age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care as needed. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) independently. Serves as a role model in patient care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical practice, communication and documentation. Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in procedural and perianesthesia nursing. Facilitates a positive environment and provides hands-on guidance to engage staff in adopting a care delivery model of accountability, empowerment and excellence in practice. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications and competencies as defined in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Performs other duties as needed.
