JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track position as assistant teaching professor or lecturer of education. We are seeking a colleague who envisions a career where teaching and practice are equally valued. The successful candidate will be someone who finds meaning from being in the classroom and providing high- quality, active learning experiences.

Responsibilities of the job include teaching undergraduate courses in the instruction of reading, language arts, and children's literature, and education-related electives and their area of expertise (typical teaching load is four courses per semester). The successful candidate will also supervise preservice teachers in field placements. All faculty are expected to advise students, engage in professional development and scholarship in their area of expertise, and provide service to the school, college, and University. Applicants must have classroom teaching experience in K-12 school settings. An earned master's degree in education, curriculum instruction, or related field is required by the appointment start date; a doctoral degree in education in language and literacy or related discipline is preferred.

Onsite teaching is an essential function of this job. This is a two-year appointment with the excellent possibility of re-funding.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
