Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).



GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will specifically serve as a Pilot Manager for active and new pilots that test technology for cost-effective energy efficiency potential along with research initiatives and other pilots deemed to have a business need. The Pilot Manager will provide product and energy efficiency expertise to assess viability and feasibility for potential new customer energy efficiency programs while engaging with key stakeholders to understand the impacts on the customer experience and broader energy efficiency portfolio goals. This position requires contract management, vendor management, stakeholder influence, and internal/external progress reporting for involved stakeholders including state regulators and industry trade groups.

Day-to-day, the Pilot Manager will manage ideally 3-5 pilots, likely all involving energy efficiency opportunities for customers unless another business need arises. The Pilot Manager is responsible for ensuring that the pilots objectives are planned and pilot activities progress toward the objectives. This could involve coordination and work with a field implementation team, consultants, Marketing and Communications, Experience Design, our internal program team, regulatory and legal, and leadership. A background in energy efficiency and knowledge of how regulated utilities and utility energy efficiency rebate programs work will set this candidate apart.

The Product Manager is responsible for the success of their product, and is a customer advocate, challenging internal beliefs and assumptions, using quantitative and qualitative data to inform choices, and leveraging iterative practices to optimize performance. Utilize skill to harness cross-functional teams including brand, communications, marketing, design, analytics, and channel owners to inform direction and to maximize key performance measures.

Responsible for ensuring products are providing high customer value while delivering an exceptional experience that creates brand advocacy, clean energy capacity and drives profitability throughout the product lifecycle.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the competitive and regulatory environment, navigate and influence the strengths of each to maximize value delivery to target customers and to the Company. Collaborate on regulatory filings in support of product targets, meet with regulators to discuss topics pertaining to program delivery
  • Promote customer centricity, ensuring that short term benefits and "nice to have" features do not distract from long-term success in a competitive marketplace. Ensure modern digital strategy and experience best practices through product engagement and lifecycle. Co-design customer experiences for product such as awareness, evaluation, decision, enrollment via website and phone channels, delivery and retention
  • Effective use of metrics to drive product goals, including financial profit/loss, experience journeys, channel performance and marketing campaign effectiveness performance. Manage week to week product operations including partner management, IT functions, experience design work and marketing/sales activities. Develop product objectives (e.g. MW, MWh and MCF targets), track performance monthly and weekly. Manage evaluation and measurement of product demand, customer implications and energy impacts
  • Maintain a multi-year product roadmap with priorities and feature sets that account for product, segment and sector strategies, market trends, regulatory and legislative dynamics, company goals, etc. Ensure all internal/external stakeholders have clear alignment on the product vision, positioning, product strategy, etc. Implement strategies to maximize product effectiveness throughout the engagement funnel and across customer journeys. Continuously improve and expand product/service performance using multiple sources of customer feedback, product and competitive analysis, rapid iteration and testing methodologies, etc.

  • Lead execution of product plans to deliver product results and achieve sector goals through implementation contractors & internal partners

  • Develop multiple product strategies and plans

  • Recognize opportunities for and participate in problem solving around program challenges and opportunities
  • Able to present and serve on boards, and/or policy committees, task forces, workgroups
  • Ability to balance multiple constraints to achieve business outcomes
  • Ability to achieve positive regulatory outcomes and deliver on filing requirements
  • Technically proficient based on product category (expertise in Demand Response/Demand Side Management)



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Energy, or related discipline with two (2) or more years of experience managing products, projects, or clean energy programs

    • (OR) Associate's degree in Business, Marketing, Energy, or related discipline with four (4) or more years of experience managing products, projects, or clean energy programs
    • (OR) High School Diploma/GED with six (6) or more years of experience managing products, projects, or clean energy programs
