PRB is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit research organization focused on improving people's health and well-being through evidence-based policies and practices. Our staff analyze population data and information and ensure the research, and its applications are understood and used widely by decisionmakers, advocates, and media.

Position Summary:

PRB is seeking a Program Analyst / Program Advisor to provide technical support to activities in the International Programs (IP) department, particularly on the USAID Gender Leadership, Equity, and Advancement for Development (LEAD) project. The Gender LEAD activity provides technical assistance, programmatic support, and thought leadership in gender integration to USAID Missions, Bureaus, and operating units, cutting across various sectors and focus areas.

The Program Analyst/Program Advisor will lead the coordination and organization of external meetings and events, conduct research and data analysis, develop evidence-driven, technical communications products and advocacy tools, and support gender-related communities of practice.

The ideal candidate for this position will have gender integration implementation experience and/or training. Finally, the successful applicant will have excellent writing skills and meeting design and facilitation skills. The ideal candidate for this position will thrive in highly collaborative settings and will have experience working with and managing the interests of diverse stakeholders. The designation of this position as a Program Analyst or Program Advisor will depend on the selected candidate's level of experience.

Essential/Primary Responsibilities:

Illustrative responsibilities include:

  • Support and/or manage activities. Tasks include: communication with partners, consultants, and contractors; developing activity goals, plans, and timelines; authoring and/or editing materials; monitoring activity timelines and deliverables; managing results collection activities and reporting; and overseeing workplans and budgets and contributing to donor reports.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of technical communities of practice responsible for: organizing events and stakeholder convenings; leading the development, production, translation, and dissemination of communications products such as briefs, videos, infographics, reports, and blog posts; and coordinating and partnering with in-county partners to execute events, capture monitoring, learning, and evaluation results, and inform products and activities.
  • Lead the coordination and organization of small-to-large scale internal and external events, including meetings and summits responsible for managing event conceptualization, planning, logistics, promotion, and communications.
  • Draft and/or provide technical and editorial input on diverse materials related to gender and other topics in collaboration with consultants and in-country partners. Tasks may include conducting background research, gathering literature, analyzing data (quantitative and qualitative), interpreting and writing findings and implications, and revising content based on internal and external review in close collaboration with donors, consultants, external partners.
  • Participate in developing innovative ways to communicate news and information to diverse audiences. Compile and write blog posts, web articles, and other technical content for multimedia formats.
  • Contribute to new business pursuits, including drafting concept notes and proposals.
  • Represent PRB at professional conferences and meetings.
  • Occasional travel may be involved.

Accountabilities:

Reports to a Senior Program Director.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

PRB is seeking candidates who are highly organized, detail oriented, results focused, self-reliant, resourceful, and collegial. Applicants should have:

  • Bachelors in social sciences, public health, international development, demography, or a related field (e.g., gender and women's studies, sociology, anthropology); Masters degree in a related field preferred.
  • At least 7 or more years of progressive relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated technical experience in or knowledge of at least one specific area of gender studies (e.g., women's economic empowerment, gender-based violence, social norms) or international development sector (e.g., Education, Health, Environment, Democracy Human Rights and Governance).
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Experience translating, packaging, systematically sharing, and promoting the use of technical data and learning with key programmatic audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, adhering to deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Fluency in English required. Professional fluency includes the ability to lead and facilitate meetings with native speakers, conduct interviews, and prepare and interpret correspondence and documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work respectfully and collegially in teams, including with international partners and project funders, and to adapt to shifting priorities and timelines.
  • Interest in PRB's mission and work.

Not required but a plus:

  • Experience with USAID programming and donor requirements.
  • Demonstrated project management success, including developing workplans, ensuring quality and timeliness of technical deliverables, and managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of a foreign language.
  • Experience working in low- and middle-income countries, preferably on gender.
  • Understanding of Do No Harm principles and trauma-informed approaches.
