JOB TYPE Classification: Exempt Supervises Positions: No JOB SUMMARY The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Coordinator assists in center development, managing the accreditation process and ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP standards, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, quality improvement efforts, and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety. The MBS Coordinator supports the development of written protocols and education of nurses detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical vital signs that is specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events. The MBS Coordinator serves as the liaison between the facility and all surgeons performing metabolic and bariatric surgery at the center and any general surgeon providing call coverage. The MBS Coordinator assists in maintaining the documentation of the call schedule provided by all covering surgeons. The MBS Coordinator works closely with the MBS Clinical Reviewer to ensure timely and accurate data collection. Communication: Communicates the benefits of nutrition programming. Effectively communicates team needs to available resources. Participates in public speaking (in/out of facility) to promote healthy lifestyles as needed. Works closely with performance coaching, sports medicine staff, and executive team leaders on nutrition programming. Participates in weekly/monthly staff meetings and provides updates on nutrition programming. Patient Care: Provides nutritional education and nutrition assessments for patients. Consults and educates patients/clients on nutrition management. Provides coaching towards improving health status, reducing health risk, and improving quality of life of patients. Optimizes nutritional status of patients through medical nutrition therapy. Schedules and follows-up with patients as needed with appropriate documentation on all patients. Works/communicates with interdisciplinary team in the management of health and nutrition factors. Record Keeping: Maintains information on personnel records. Demonstrates clear and concise documentation for client record keeping including evaluation summaries and progress notes. Maintains information for personnel records, including education record, certifications/licensure. Learning: Uses efficient learning techniques to acquire and apply new knowledge and skills. Learns new information to remain current in state-of-the-art methodologies. Identifies continuing education needs. Communicates educational and operational needs of program to manager/director. The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: 2 Year/Associate's Degree required. 4-Year/Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in bariatric nursing and caring for bariatric patients preferred. Minimum of 1 year of experience in surgical monitoring preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: RN, RD, or other licensed or registered health care professional required. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: General knowledge of the entire continuum of care for the bariatric surgical patient to include the ambulatory and acute setting.
