JOB TYPE Classification: Exempt Supervises Positions: No JOB SUMMARY The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Coordinator assists in center development, managing the accreditation process and ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP standards, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, quality improvement efforts, and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety. The MBS Coordinator supports the development of written protocols and education of nurses detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical vital signs that is specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events. The MBS Coordinator serves as the liaison between the facility and all surgeons performing metabolic and bariatric surgery at the center and any general surgeon providing call coverage. The MBS Coordinator assists in maintaining the documentation of the call schedule provided by all covering surgeons. The MBS Coordinator works closely with the MBS Clinical Reviewer to ensure timely and accurate data collection. Communication: Communicates the benefits of nutrition programming.
Patient Care: Provides nutritional education and nutrition assessments for patients.
Record Keeping: Maintains information on personnel records.
Learning: Uses efficient learning techniques to acquire and apply new knowledge and skills.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: 2 Year/Associate's Degree required. 4-Year/Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in bariatric nursing and caring for bariatric patients preferred. Minimum of 1 year of experience in surgical monitoring preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: RN, RD, or other licensed or registered health care professional required. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: General knowledge of the entire continuum of care for the bariatric surgical patient to include the ambulatory and acute setting. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: N/A PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical Demand Code: 3A, Administration Work Function/Activity: Sedentary to Light Physical Demand The job requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
