Medical Coder

This positions is responsible for the daily audit of Health Center charges using coding expertise, coordinating referrals, credentialing of medical providers, positing insurance payments, and other duties as assigned.

Lafene Health Center provides students with accessible, high quality, and affordable outpatient healthcare, focusing on keeping students healthy and promoting a healthy campus community. Care is provided by board certified physicians and nurse practitioners, as well as nursing professionals. Students receive the same high quality care one would expect from their healthcare providers at home. Students will have access to coordinated and comprehensive services targeted at building and maintaining overall well-being. We believe good health is essential for academic success.

This position is required to be completed on-site.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Two years minimum current experience with coding.

Preferred Qualifications:

• One year clinical experience to include general office skills and computer experience.
• Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding. Knowledge of medical terminology. Able to read and understand clinic notes in patient records.
• Have a pleasant personality, clear speaking voice, good command of English and spelling, good penmanship, have consideration for others, and have the ability to function under the pressure of daily work requirements. The person in this position should be very dependable to ensure the efficient operation of the department and provision of quality service to our patients.

Other Requirements:

  Must be a certified coder within six months of employment.

  Mobility to move about the clinic rapidly to accommodate patient flow and perform necessary duties in a confined office space, must be able to function at computer station, with telephone.
