The strength & conditioning department oversees and maintains the conditioning and strength training for the athletes participating in ECU Athletics' sports.
Job Duties
The primary and most important responsibility of a coach is instructing student-athletes. Reporting to the Director of Strength & Conditioning, this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties with the approval of the Director of Strength & Conditioning:

Strength and Conditioning Functions - 60%
1. Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all assigned athletic programs in a manner that reflects research-driven practices and a positive athlete experience
2. Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
3. Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA /CSCCa Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines.
4. Determine and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the university's expectations for curricular and extra-curricular activities, as stated in the school's Student Code of Conduct.
Assessment and Communication - 20%
1. Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff.
2. Conduct an annual needs-analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team's athletic trainer at the conclusion of each sport season.
3. Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete evaluation and progress.
4. Annually conduct and review a departmental risk management plan.
5. Departmental involvement that includes routine maintenance, purchase of new equipment, and staffing needs.
6. Design professional development activities per annual evaluation of departmental staff.
Support -20%
1. Design and instruct curricular strength and conditioning clinics as needed.
2. Coordinate a novice level program exposure that serves as a strength and conditioning. introduction reflecting research-driven practices Long-Term Athletic/Fitness Development Model.
3. Occasionally provide support to the nutrition fueling station.
4. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience
- BS in Kinesiology or related field
- Experience in teaching and performing strength training techniques
- Experience working with student athletes, colleagues and the public
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency-
for example, the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification or SCCC through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association.
Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation ( CPR), and automated external
defibrillation ( AED) certifications
