Organizational Unit Overview |
The Division of University Advancement supports, encourages, and promotes East Carolina's academic mission and vision by interacting with alumni, friends, and the greater community. The Division's goal is to engage and connect these constituents with the University to garner support and secure resources that will enhance East Carolina's unique place in higher education. University Advancement staff members identify major funding prospects, develop specific cultivation and solicitation strategies in support of university priorities, and implement careful stewardship of gifts. University Advancement also serves as central coordinator for all fund-raising efforts across the campus. We are seeking applicants for the position of Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, which will help to enhance the University's relationships with businesses and charitable foundations. |
Job Duties |
The Senior Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will build and manage a portfolio that is the result of matches made between academic projects and the funding priorities of local, state, national and international corporations and foundations. The Senior Associate Director will work collaboratively and collegiality with the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to identify and understand priority projects, assess the fund-ability of those projects, conduct research to identify new and leverage existing partnerships, develop compelling proposals, and advance projects through the application processes at corporations and foundations.
Fundraising - 60%
Senior Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations works with faculty to identify new funding opportunities and connects philanthropic leaders at corporations and foundations to the university. The Senior Associate Director represents the Senior Director on university-wide committees as needed and assists in providing ongoing training to faculty in making their case for support to corporations and foundations to raise the level of grantsmanship at
ECU. The Senior Associate Director personally manages a dynamic portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects and secures new levels of institutional support through gifts/grants at the five- and six-figure level.
Internal and External Partnerships - 25%
The Senior Director of Corporate Foundation Relations works closely with the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to forge collaborative relationships with the Division of Research and Economic Development and
ECU colleges and schools across both East and West Campus to deepen relationships with corporate and foundation prospects and donors in support of East Carolina University. The Senior Associate Director works with the Senior Director to develop training and presentations for deans, faculty, and foundation colleagues on making their case for support to corporate and foundation funders.
Multi Divisional/Foundation Teamwork-15%
The Senior Associate Director works in conjunction with the Senior Director and philanthropic leaders at corporations and foundations to forge recruiting, research, and philanthropic partnerships in alignment with East Carolina University's Strategic Priorities. The annual dollars raised by corporate and foundation entities will aid towards the
UNC System Performance Metrics Goal related to increased research revenue and development sponsored program awards. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
- A Bachelor's Degree, and minimum of 7 years' work experience in either corporate and foundation fundraising or the communications field (corporate/news media/public relations) at a comparably complex organization.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment within a highly complex organizational structure.

- Graduate degree.
- Highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.

- An ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstance
- Tolerance for and ability to work productively in the context of ambiguity, uncertainty and change.
- The ability to learn quickly across widely varied academic fields and interact effectively and substantively with faculty, university leadership, and corporate and foundation representatives.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into laymen terms, effectively tailor communications for diverse audiences, and develop persuasive and competitive proposals.
- An understanding of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques necessary to drive corporate and foundation relations success in generating significant funding commitments and demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for obtaining research vital to shaping competitive programmatic project ideas for funding consideration and identifying potential funding sources.
- The ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors and interact professionally with institutional representatives.
