Position Begins: March 31, 2025 Job Description: St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks a temporary Upper School Physical Health and Wellness Teacher as a long-term substitute. The primary responsibilities of the role are: -Teaching 4 sections of Upper School Physical Education to students in grade 9 -Advising a group of Upper School Students in grade 9 Our physical education classes are centered around a holistic approach to health topics and activities designed to promote the students' physical and emotional health and well-being. Students explore various topics that promote a healthy sense of self and a positive approach to fitness, nutrition, and healthy habits. The 9th-grade course addresses the construction and implementation of goal setting as it relates to overall well-being. Content may include nutrition, mindfulness, and healthy decision-making. The class also engages in various forms of sports, games, and conditioning activities. The goal is to give students a framework for making healthy choices and building healthy life habits. The ideal candidate will strive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are emphasized. Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration and communication with both colleagues and students, are required. Candidates should support the mission of SPA and the vision of the Upper School, and be eager to join a professional community where openness to growth is the norm. Required: Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in physical education, health education, psychology, or another health-related field, and should have experience working with high school students as a teacher. Candidates should also have knowledge of the social-emotional needs of younger high school students so that they can help students grow during the transition from middle school into high school.
