Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Recreational Therapist - Group Facilitator to join our Jail Based Treatment Program that operates as a 30-bed adult specialized behavioral health unit at Washoe County Detention Facility in Reno, NV.

The Recreational Therapist/Group Facilitator will assess clients, plan, and implement diverse daily therapeutic groups, and evaluate recreational goals all aimed at improving overall mental health including general functioning, physical heath, motivation for treatment, and emotional well-being. The ideal candidate has experience working in a mental health and/or correctional setting, facilitating group activities, and in working within a multidisciplinary team.

The Jail-Based Treatment Program provides specialized behavioral health services for patients awaiting transfer to state hospital for court-ordered treatment. The program provides intensive multidisciplinary treatment in a therapeutic environment. By providing patient-centered, evidenced-based, wrap around services, the JBTP aims to decrease the patients' state hospital length of stay or eliminate the need to transfer to state hospital altogether. The ultimate goal is to improve patients' health and welfare in sustainable ways and enable them to move forward with their legal cases.

NaphCare is partnered with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office to provide this program, which is supported by the SNAMHS and funded through the NV-DHHS Division of Public and Behavioral Health.

Responsibilities

Position Description:

  • Serve as contributing member to the JBTP multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Assess patients group participation and relay to treatment team
  • Facilitate and document mental health/recretation activity and education groups
  • Track and facilitate incentivization program for patient treatment participation
  • Coordinate with healthcare and security staff regarding patients' mental health care
  • Participate in educational and training activities related to mental health care for patients, security personnel, and healthcare staff
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of mental health treatment provision


Qualifications

Qualifications for a Recreational Therapist:

  • Bachelor's prepared candidate in social work, psychology, human services or related field
  • Preferred recreational therapy, art therapy, music therapy, occupational therapy, or other mental health training or certification
  • 1 year of experience preferred
    • Experience planning/administering activity and education groups
    • Experience in a correctional or secure environment is preferred but not required
