Position Summary

Operate and maintain heavy duty crawler crane equipped with clamshell used in geotechnical operations in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain heavy duty crawler crane equipped with clamshell used in geotechnical operations in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Use hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Read and comply with safety plans, rules, maintenance instructions, training materials, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), warning tags, traffic signs and procedure manuals.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, protocols, and industry standards to ensure a safe working environment for yourself, colleagues, and bystanders. Conduct pre-operational inspections of cranes to ensure proper functioning and identify any potential hazards.
  • Safely lift, move, and position heavy materials, equipment, and machinery using the crane. Determine load capacities, rigging requirements, and appropriate lifting techniques for each task.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with other team members, including signalers or riggers, to coordinate lifting operations and ensure safe load movement.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspection of cranes, including lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs. Report any equipment malfunctions or defects to the appropriate personnel.
  • Complete accurate records and logbooks related to crane operations, maintenance activities, and any incidents or accidents that occur during work hours.
  • Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.


Basic Qualifications



  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Two plus years of operation/maintenance of crawler crane equipped with clamshell.
  • CCO Mobile Crane Operator Certification for Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes (LBC).


Preferred Qualifications



  • The following safety training is preferred, but not mandatory. Company will provide additional training, as necessary.


    • 40 Hour HAZWOPER training.
    • Competent Person Safety Training
    • 8-Hour Supervisory Training
    • 30-Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training
    • First Aid and CPR

  • Operational characteristics of a variety of heavy duty crane equipment.
  • Maintenance requirements of heavy duty crane equipment.
  • Methods and materials used in general construction and maintenance work.
  • Principles and techniques of field maintenance activities.
  • Traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in heavy crane equipment operation.
  • Possess a keen sense of spatial awareness to maneuver the crane smoothly and avoid obstacles, structures, power lines, or other potential hazards.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to job sites, as needed.
  • Math and measurement skills.
  • Ability to embrace a culture of safety.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled construction and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Ability to work on slopes and uneven surfaces.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends as required.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions and demands may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Proper PPE, including protective eyewear, gloves, a hard hat, and steel-toed boots, is required. Effective communication, tool use, and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
