Who You'll Work With
Reporting to the Chief Data Officer in Tech Ecosystem, you will play a key strategic role in developing and executing McKinsey's capabilities to serve internal colleagues and McKinsey's clients. You will play a pivotal role in helping McKinsey retain its position as the leader of strategic insights.
McKinsey's clients - the world's leading businesses and institutions - rely on the firm to help with important questions of strategy, leadership, and execution. In turn, the firm is increasingly turning to the power of data to extend and enrich our ability to support clients with new types and new depths of insights. These insights need to be more connected than ever, integrating the many distinctive data sets and insights that live across our global ecosystem, and simultaneously supporting excellence across internal operations and Firm Functions.
Your impact within our firm
You will partner with technical and non-technical leaders within Tech Ecosystem and senior leaders in our client-facing AI practice (QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey) to define, lead and deploy the firm's transformation towards a data- and AI-enabled organization that is aligned to core business objectives.
You will create the platform capabilities for internal and client facing teams to adopt and evolve to new advancements in AI and analytics. You will oversee a multidisciplinary community of data scientists, data analysts, analytic engineers, machine learning engineers, and AI specialists to drive impact from high value initiatives, and guide their long-term professional development.
Your key responsibilities will be:
Strategic Leadership:
  • Define and execute the vision for AI and analytics aligned with McKinsey's organizational goals in a federated environment.
  • Transform the firm's decision-making and operational practices by embedding data insights at every leadership level.
  • Develop a comprehensive roadmap for AI/ML and analytics innovation, ensuring consistency with enterprise-wide data strategies and McKinsey's commitment to client impact.
  • Champion the adoption of AI and analytics technologies, demonstrating their value and measurable impact on client engagements and internal operations.
AI & Analytics Capabilities and Value Capture:
  • Oversee the design and deployment of AI/ML models at scale to address complex business challenges and uncover new opportunities for McKinsey and its clients.
  • Develop reusable platform components like feature stores, experiment tracking systems, and DevOps concept for ML pipeline automation to accelerate, and streamline model development (re-using capabilities from QuantumBlack when possible).
  • Drive the exploration of novel AI solutions to solve unique, domain-specific problems and enhance McKinsey's analytical capabilities.
  • Expand the use of semantic models, ontologies and knowledge graphs across internal and client-serving use cases.
  • Champion data literacy programs and the adoption of "BI with AI".
Governance & Compliance:
  • Ensure that all AI, ML and analytics practices adhere to ethical standards, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish guidelines for responsible AI, with a focus on bias detection, explainability, and transparency.
  • Develop methods to detect data poisoning, adversarial attacks and other threats to model development.
Performance Measurement & Optimization:
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the impact of AI/ML and analytics initiatives, including the efficacy of the data fabric ecosystem.
  • Optimize the lifecycle of models and data products through robust MLOps practices, ensuring scalability and performance reliability.
  • Ensure Tech Ecosystem strategic initiatives have measurable goals, impact is tracked and KPIs cascade throughout the organization.
  • Regularly evaluate and refine AI and analytics initiatives to maximize their return on investment.
Team Development & Learning:
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing community of data analysts, analytic engineers, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and AI specialists.
  • Foster a collaborative culture of innovation, continuous learning, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Part of the global guild leadership team for data analytics and data science across the firm.
  • Implement training and professional development programs, in close collaboration with Learning, to ensure team expertise aligns with emerging technologies and McKinsey's standards of excellence.
  • Work with leadership, Learning, Talent and HR to create a learning path for AI and analytics experts and citizen data colleagues.
Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Partner with business leaders to identify high-impact opportunities and translate them into actionable outcomes.
  • Simplify and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, fostering trust and driving adoption of data capabilities.
  • Convene federated and decentralized AI and analytics teams from across the internal firm functions to align on standard ways of working.
  • Represent McKinsey as a thought leader in industry forums, conferences, and collaborative AI research endeavors.
Your qualifications and skills
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in computer science, data science, AI, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 15+ years of relevant work experience in strategic and operational implementation of analytics and AI initiatives
  • Proven track record of leading large, multidisciplinary teams and driving significant value from analytics, AI, and data
  • Deep understanding of data fabric and mesh architectures and emerging AI technologies
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience in a consulting environment or similar industry is highly desirable
