Your Role With Us: Working in the Medical Laboratory at Salem health, the Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) helps lead and guide the Technical Lab Assistants (TLA), Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS), and Section Technical Specialists, under the direction of the manager and supervisor of the department.Core Functions:Performs staff workload responsibilities, setting high standards of performance; Leads and educates team members.Monitors daily workload and coordinates adequate staffing by working with the supervisor or manager; Promotes flexibility and teamwork, as workload requires.Effectively prioritizes work so that efficiency is optimal and turnaround time expectations are continually met.Flexibility in tasks and bench assignments exhibited as workload requires; Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in work volume and staffing.Understands principles and procedures of each bench; accurately responds to questions that arise from support staff, technical staff, client service staff, outreach clients or other practitioners in a supportive and respectful manner.Serves as a resource and educator for staff; Assists in coordinating timely training of staff for new policies and procedures as they are instituted; Helps teach staff in the effective use of Hospital and Laboratory information systems.Documenting all personnel, issues for manager or supervisor follow up; Providing specific feedback to the supervisor regarding employee performance for annual reviews.Verifies and documents satisfactory equipment operation; Responsible for maintaining equipment and notification of manager or supervisor in a timely manner of problems with equipment.Demonstrates knowledge in and compliance with the Hospital Safety Management Program; Supports and initiates changes and improvements in the workplace in coordination with the manager and supervisor.Readily volunteers or accepts assignments and outside development activities as opportunities arise; Constructively participates in department activities. Registry eligible may also be considered. **Must complete certification within 6 months of hire**A minimum of two (2) years of technical laboratory experience in the designated section of the clinical laboratory.; Must obtain a minimum of 8 CEUs annually.Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Effective communication with all members of the health care team is essential.Must be able to work with interruptions and maintain a creative and flexible approach to organization needs; Experience in team process, quality management, and problem solving required.Experience with a Laboratory Information System required; Ability to analyze current methods and processes, look for improvements and develop reports/recommendations.Ability to detect and investigate problems, make evaluations supported by tangible evidence, ability to provide consultation to physicians, nurses and others in area of specialization.Requires demonstrated ability to review existing procedures as well as the creation of new procedures.Thorough and current knowledge of the principles, techniques, procedures, and instrumentation and safety precautions in the field of specialization required.
