About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

We are looking for a tool-savvy Solution Engineer with expertise in JAMA Connect, Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys working with cutting-edge tools, and has a passion for optimizing systems engineering processes to deliver innovative solutions. This role will focus on integrating tools and methodologies to enhance requirements management, risk analysis, and system modeling while collaborating with cross-functional teams to address complex engineering challenges. This role will be located at either our Palo Alto, CA or Irvine, CA facility and reports directly to a Manager, Product Management.

Responsibilities

Requirements Management (JAMA Connect)
  • Define, manage, and maintain system-level requirements using JAMA Connect.
  • Ensure seamless traceability between requirements, design elements, and testing/validation activities.
  • Develop custom workflows, dashboards, and templates within JAMA to improve usability and team efficiency.
DFMEA Process Ownership
  • Facilitate DFMEA sessions with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Create, maintain, and update DFMEA documentation in alignment with industry standards (e.g., ISO 26262).
  • Drive the implementation of risk prioritization and corrective actions into design and development processes.
Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Develop and maintain system models using MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Enterprise Architect, or similar platforms.
  • Use SysML to define system architectures, behaviors, and interactions.
  • Integrate MBSE models with requirements (via JAMA) and risk analysis (via DFMEA) for seamless alignment and traceability.
Tool Integration and Optimization
  • Leverage technical expertise to integrate engineering tools and optimize workflows across JAMA, DFMEA, and MBSE platforms.
  • Customize and automate tools using scripting languages (e.g., Python, VBA) to improve efficiency.
  • Explore and evaluate new tools to enhance systems engineering processes and recommend improvements.
Collaboration and Support
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for JAMA, DFMEA, and MBSE tools and practices.
  • Train and mentor team members to become proficient with tools and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure tool adoption and alignment with organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, tool integration, or a related role.
  • Proven expertise in JAMA Connect, DFMEA, and MBSE methodologies and tools.
  • Experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Rhapsody, or Capella.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, VBA, or similar for tool customization and automation.
  • Strong technical proficiency in systems engineering tools and a passion for exploring new software solutions.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with industry standards like ISO 26262, ASPICE, and ISO 15288.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools like JIRA.
  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, or other safety-critical industries.
