Position Summary |
This position supports the Georgia Automated Environmental Monitoring Network was established in 1991 by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the University of Georgia. The objective of the
AEMN is to collect reliable weather information for agricultural and environmental applications. This position will be in charge of maintaining the University of Georgia 89 weather network stations to include regular visits to the stations for maintenance and repair, calibration of equipment, and replacement of equipment on a regular schedule. The position will also help maintain vehicles maintenance as needed. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledgeable in basic maintenance of weather and computer equipment
- Able to work independently and travel to weather stations and replace equipment as needed
- Use Excel or similar software to track station changes in a database
- Good communication skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work well with other team members

Interact with other weather network team members. Serve as the primary contact with the hosts of the 89 individual weather stations when scheduling and performing site visits. Schedule visits with station hosts, choose how to combine visits and drive to the stations, and to review data for quality control. |

Calibration of weather station sensors and evaluation of weather data. The research professional will learn operation of Campbell Scientific datalogger unit and connected sensors; check daily weather reports and maps to maintain high-quality data; contact local collaborators in case of problems and take appropriate action. |

Maintain sensor database tracking changes in sensors. The research professional enters changes of sensors, including serial numbers, notes on replacement and calibration, and dates of changes into the sensor database in a timely way. |

Vehicle maintenance of service trucks. The research professional will maintain the department vehicles in a workable and clean condition. Service vehicles on an appropriate schedule. Get repairs done when needed. Check oil, tires, and other vehicle conditions regularly. |
