Position Summary

The Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of New Mexico seeks a highly motivated team player with a commitment to implementation of research studies examining the potential use of psychedelic assisted therapies for addiction, PTSD, depression and other indication.

The position includes being trained to become study coordinator studies of psilocybin assisted therapy for major depression and end of life mental health The scientist may also participate in the development and initiation of additional future studies. The Research Scientist 3 will assist with the recruitment, prescreening and screening of potential study participants including the development of lab procedures including schedule development and support during medication sessions. The research position may include training in specific psychological assessment measures including but not limited to SCID-CT, MADRS, C-SSRS and CAPS-5.

With direction from senior staff these are specific duties the Research Scientist II may participate in:

  • On-site data collection, including from electronic medical records.
  • Screening and recruitment of research participants
  • Psychological assessment of research participants
  • Development of schedules and other items to assist overall lab management
  • Occasional weekend day or overnight stay to be available to support participants during required overnight stay.
  • Data entry and management including use of clinical trial software including Zelta, Suvoda and Red Cap
  • Tracking and submission of invokable items for sponsored studies
  • Coordinating with the IRB
  • Conducting literature reviews
  • Contributing to manuscripts for scholarly publication
  • Completing other project tasks as needed

Conditions of Employment
  • Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check. Additional health screenings may be required, dependent on the nature of the research conducted, as determined by Employee Occupational Health Services.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • MA or PhD in relevant scientific field
  • Prior experience with clinical trials in research laboratory management
  • Familiarity with research in psychedelic assisted therapy, addiction, depression or other mental health areas
  • Experience as a mental health therapist Experience with psychological ratings such as PH SCID, SDS, MADRS or CAPS-5
