Summary: Cytogenetic Technologist Trainees are individuals within the UNC Medical Center McLendon Clinical Laboratories who have obtained a bachelors degree but do not have clinical laboratory experience or certification in Cytogenetics. The Cytogenetics Trainee will receive mentoring and education in the field of Cytogenetics and will be required to obtain certification in Cytogenetics CG(ASCP) within three years. The Cytogenetics Trainee will follow regulatory guidelines and laboratory policies under guidance by certified cytogenetic technologists to learn all aspects of Cytogenetics in order to qualify for the CG(ASCP) certification exam. Responsibilities: 1. Preparation of specimens including peripheral bloods, bone marrows, lymph nodes, tumors, products of conception, amniocentisis and chorionic villus sampling; preparation of media and other reagents; cleaning of labarotory equipment and supplies.
