Job Summary

The Office of Student Access & Success' Golden Scholars program is currently seeking Peer Facilitators to join their team of professionals.

The Golden Scholars Program is an alternative admissions program created to help students transition to Florida International University. The program is based on the philosophy that students who are motivated and committed to invest the time; can succeed academically when provided with individualized support services.

Peer Facilitators are responsible for helping develop positive and productive relationships with incoming Golden Scholars Summer Bridge Program students. Peer Facilitators collaborate with Golden Scholars Success Coach and other SAS personnel to ensure a cohesive environment for all involved. The Peer Facilitator position is an on-call role.

Duties to include:

  • Live in the residence hall with the students for the duration of the program; sharing responsibility with FIU Housing RAs and maintain positive and collaborate relationships with Housing RAs and Staff.
  • Attend and participate in all staff training programs.
  • Participate in all opening and closing preparation and responsibilities, including assist with registration and sign in/out procedures during move-in and move out days.
  • Supervise and actively participate with assigned group of students in a variety of activities.
  • Ensure that Summer Bridge Student adhere to all program rules and university policies (consistent with FIU Student Code of Conduct)
  • Planning and/or promoting programs which enhance the academic, social or emotional growth of Golden Scholars Bridge Program participants.
  • Lead evening engagement activities for program participants.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Internet, Windows and Microsoft software applications.
  • Serve as a positive role model in demonstrating good conduct, punctuality, appropriate dress, and student leadership.
  • Performs related work as required or as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Junior level status and above (preferred, however mature sophomore level students will be considered).
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Friendly, outgoing and strong organizational skills.
  • Intermediate level of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.
Desired Qualifications

    • Current/Active Golden Scholars Bridge Program participant
    • Previous experience as a Resident Assistant or Peer Advisor

    • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
    • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
    • Upon graduating, student employment must end.
